Job Description
ASRC Federal Advanced Research is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support autonomy vehicle integrations in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Considering the state of the world today, military technical innovation is critical to defending our territories and those of our allies. The US Army is currently exploring advancements to equip ground combat forces with autonomous vehicle platforms. This effort presents a unique opportunity for civilians to participate in the research and development efforts that will shape future battlefield combat platforms.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide technical services in the areas of heavy equipment repair and support in the assembly, fabrication, repair, assisting the Government engineers and technicians in the design and development of military, commercial, construction vehicles and vehicle prototype platforms.
Document the repairs or installations of new systems and any implications of the vehicle’s performance.
Identify any known changes to the vehicle’s performance because of a repair or installation of a new system to the vehicle.
Provide technical services for system integration functions that will require knowledge in hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, mechanics, fabrication, assembly, physical prototyping, analysis and troubleshooting and integration of new systems.
Possess the ability to tear down, build up vehicles and heavy equipment.
Possess experience in the major areas of heavy-duty vehicle systems and repairs consisting of diesel and gasoline engines, automatic transmissions, drive systems, steering, suspension, brakes, electronics and heating and air conditioning systems.
Repair components by replacing worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned parts.
Diagnose/troubleshoot electrical issues within a vehicle.
Perform preventive and special maintenance.
Required Qualifications
Capable of standing all day and lifting 45 lbs.
Willingness to travel CONUS and OCONUS 25% annually.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Secret Clearance.
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, certificate from a 2-year technical school or completion of an apprenticeship program leading to Journeyman status or equivalent with a minimum of 5-7 years related experience.
