
Adult Education GED Instructor and Graduation Pathways Specialist
Job Description
Faribault Public Schools Adult Education is seeking a full time instructor and graduation pathway specialist to work with our amazing adult students at the Faribault Education Center (FEC). This position requires a valid MN teaching license. This position will serve approximately 50 graduates per year. This position will be responsible for approximately 10 hours of instruction/prep each week (hyflex). In addition to approximately 30 hours of advising, navigation and data entry for all the GED and Adult Diploma learners at the FEC. This position is also responsible for the navigation of a small grant serving this population of learners. This role is part of the leadership team at the FEC and will co-lead and plan the ABE level Professional Learning Communities (PLC's) four times per year.
This is a 240 day contract. As a daytime teaching position, this position will require one (1) evening per week (Mondays) with the set schedule at the FEC as follows: Monday 10-8pm, Tuesday-Thursday 10-4pm. All other(14) hours are flexible based on the candidate's preference. *This position is being created for a day teaching position, but for the right candidate, we could consider an evening teaching schedule (Mondays and Wednesdays 5-8pm hyflex).
This follows the district calendar, but in addition will include summer hours according to the FEC schedule. This teacher will have experience with all GED subject areas including Math, Social Studies, Reasoning, Science and will be confident teaching hyflex.
Essential Functions:
Instructor responsibilities: (Approximately 10 hours per week)
- Use data of NRS assessments (TABE and CASAS), other platform assessments to make focused plans and instruction for students toward a diploma or GED
- Must be knowledgeable with all GED subjects
- Must be willing to teach work preparedness
- Must be experienced or willing to learn to teach hyflex
- Maintain distance learning platforms (Aztec, Essentials, etc)
- Build relationships with students and find ways to motivate each individual to reach their full potential
- Keep accurate records and student attendance
- Co-lead and plan PLC meetings, instructional collaborative time and professional development
- Manage classroom and open learning labs to facilitate learning and retention of students
- Maintain levels of training criteria established by MN Department of Education
Graduation Pathways Specialist Responsibilities: (Approximately 30 hours per week)
- Meet with GED and Adult diploma students to develop a Learning Plan toward graduation
- Prioritize subject and focus for each student based on data and needs
- Communicate this Learning Plan with all appropriate teachers
- Maintain weekly contact with students to keep them focused on graduation
- Update all records consistently and accurately
- Complete all responsibilities for graduation requirements
- Understand the Adult Education requirements
- Work with a small caseload of students in a grant requiring monthly live contact as they work toward their diploma/GED
- Accurately use and maintain databases like SID and Workforce One
- Along with the FEC Leadership team, plan yearly Graduation Ceremony

- Bachelor's Degree and current Minnesota Teaching License
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Experience teaching adult diploma subjects, GED, work and college preparation courses
Compensation and Benefits:
- Pay rate for licensed teachers is $38.06 per hour and is benefits eligible according to the FEA Contract.
