The Opportunity
The power sector is transforming rapidly. Renewable integration, distributed energy resources, electrification, sector coupling, and evolving market designs are reshaping how power systems are planned and operated.
To address these challenges, Hitachi Energy established the Market Innovation function to complement technology‑driven innovation with a strong market perspective. Within our Power Systems of the Future research program, you help shape medium‑ and long‑term views on global power system transformation and translate them into innovative, practical solutions.
In this role, you combine future‑oriented energy system modeling with deep technical power system analysis. You develop scenarios, improve planning tools, perform advanced grid studies, and build robust analytical workflows. You work at the intersection of strategy, engineering, and research bridging long‑term system planning with real‑world technical performance.
How you’ll make an impact
Develop medium‑ and long‑term energy transition scenarios across regions
Analyze impacts of electrification, hydrogen, storage, and market evolution
Translate policy, technology, and market trends into modeling assumptions
Improve capacity expansion and system planning models and tools
Enhance optimization methods, algorithms, and computational workflows
Perform advanced power system studies, including load flow and dynamics
Assess integration of inverter‑based resources and grid‑forming controls
Link long‑term planning insights with detailed technical grid studies
Your Background
MSc in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Computer Science, or similar
Strong experience in energy system modeling and scenario analysis
Solid knowledge of mathematical optimization and advanced simulations
Experience with steady‑state, dynamic, and fault studies in power systems
Understanding of converter‑dominated grids and inverter‑based resources
Hands‑on programming skills in Python and MATLAB/Simulink
Experience with power system tools such as PowerFactory, PSS®E, or PSCAD
Experience with optimization solvers and modeling workflows like Gurobi or equivalent tools
