
Physician, Hematologic & Medical Oncology
Job Description
WakeMed Physician Practices, a leading multi‑specialty medical group with more than 500 physicians and NP/PA providers, is seeking a Board‑Eligible/Board‑Certified Hematology & Medical Oncology physician to join our expanding cancer program in Raleigh, North Carolina. You will join a collegial team of 8 physicians and 14 NP/PA providers, within a system that values excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovation.
Position Highlights
We are seeking an outstanding general hematology/oncology physician comfortable caring for a broad spectrum of solid tumor and benign/malignant hematologic conditions. The ideal candidate thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and collaborates closely with:
- Surgical oncology
- Colorectal surgery
- Hepatobiliary surgeons
- Gastroenterologists
- Radiation oncology
- Radiology and pathology
- Primary care and referring providers
Clinical Environment & Program Strengths
WakeMed Cancer Care offers a robust, fully integrated oncology ecosystem with exceptional multidisciplinary support, including:
- A well‑established referral system from both WakeMed-employed and independent providers across the Triangle
- Comprehensive surgical services: trauma/emergency general surgery, colorectal, breast, thoracic, minimally invasive, bariatric surgery, and two surgical oncologists
- Access to advanced imaging, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and endoscopy
Multidisciplinary Conferences
WakeMed maintains a strong culture of collaborative cancer care through regularly scheduled conferences:
- Weekly Breast Tumor Board
- Weekly GI Tumor Board
- Weekly Thoracic Tumor Board
- Monthly Hematology Case Conference, attended by hematologists/oncologists, hematopathologists, and NP/PA providers
These forums support optimal care planning, quality improvement, and education.
Academic & Research Opportunities
- Growing oncology clinical trials program (research experience preferred but not required)
- Opportunities to teach medical students and WakeMed Internal Medicine residents
- Ability to participate in initiatives expanding access to high‑quality cancer care across the Triangle
Schedule: Full-time, approximately 40 hours/week (36 clinical + 4 administrative).
