The Human Resources Generalist supports the day-to-day administration of HR operations within a unionized environment. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality HR services across employee relations, labor relations, recruitment, payroll support, benefits administration, leave management, and compliance.
What You’ll Do
Support daily HR operations, including onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and offboarding processes
Own weekly payroll processing, ensuring accurate timekeeping, wage calculations, and compliance with union contracts and wage and hour laws
Lead recruitment efforts, including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, and onboarding
Serve as a point of contact for employees and supervisors regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), including interpretation of contract language and consistent application of terms
Assist in managing union-related matters, including grievance intake, documentation, investigation support, and resolution tracking
Support employee benefits programs and respond to employee inquiries regarding coverage and eligibility
Coordinate and track employee leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other leave policies; ensure compliance and proper documentation
Support workers’ compensation processes, including incident reporting, claim coordination, and return-to-work tracking
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records within HRIS systems
Generate HR reports and metrics to support decision-making and compliance requirements
Participate in investigations related to employee relations issues and recommend appropriate actions
Collaborate with HR leadership and operations to ensure consistent HR practices across the organization
Collaborate with divisional and corporate HR teams to implement global HR programs
Assist with training initiatives and employee communications related to HR policies and programs
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all safety and quality procedures
Attend meetings and trainings as assigned
Complete projects as assigned
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
2–5+ years of HR experience
Familiarity with employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, and wage and hour regulations
Experience supporting payroll, talent acquisition, and leave management is highly preferred
Proficiency in HRIS and timekeeping systems
Reliable transportation
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Demonstrates high level of Emotional Intelligence when dealing with all levels of the company, clients, and vendors
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn other software
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
Ability to effectively manage time, multitask, and pay close attention to details
Self-motivated professional with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Regularly required to move, sit, and bend for various hours throughout the day
