JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Part-Time Instrumental Ensemble Instructor (Jazz Ensemble/Concert Band)
The Division of Arts and Humanities at Penn State Abington is seeking a part time instructor of our instrumental ensembles beginning August 2026. This is a one semester, non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of reappointment. Candidates with a student-centered, innovative, and engaging approach to teaching are encouraged to apply.
Job Duties
- Direct one or two instrumental ensembles per semester.
- MUSIC 82 – Concert Band
- MUSIC 84/421 – Jazz Ensemble/Jazz Combo
- Be available to teach on campus on weekday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. MUSIC 82 currently meets on Mondays; MUSIC 84/421 currently meets on Wednesdays.
- Select an appropriate repertoire to be performed at an on-campus recital each semester.
- Be available for additional public/campus performance opportunities during the semester.
- Additional opportunities for teaching private lessons in their instrument(s) of expertise may be available.
Requirements and Qualifications
- MFA preferred. MA in a relevant field is required.
- Equivalent professional experience or training will be considered.
- Experience teaching at the college level is highly desirable.
