The Department of Facility Maintenance, Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division is hiring for a Carpenter-Cabinet Maker in Honolulu. Work hours are Monday to Friday from 6:50 a.m. - 3:20 p.m. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Carpenter or Carpentry Supervisor, the position performs a variety of highly skilled journey level carpentry work involving the construction, renovation and modification of public facilities and the fabrication and installation of storage cabinets, counters, shelving, tables, doors and other accessory items such as key cabinets, drapery, valances, chalkboards, bulletin boards etc., which require the knowledge and use of high level cabinet-making skills. The position also performs numerous skilled journey level carpentry work in the repair and maintenance of wide variety of public buildings, related structures and appurtenances under the jurisdiction of the Department of Facility Maintenance.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position.
Such experience must have demonstrated the ability to plan, lay out and set up work; set up, adjust and operate a variety of woodworking machines; operate and maintain equipment and tools used in carpentry and cabinetmaking; read, interpret and work from plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches and working drawings; estimate time, labor and material requirements; rig and work from scaffolds and other high and difficult vantage points; construct and repair high grade wooden furniture and fine woodwork; work to close tolerances; work with dexterity and safety; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain good working relationships with others; handle weights and loads.
NOTE: CABINET MAKING EXPERIENCE ALONE IS NOT QUALIFYING. EXPERIENCE MUST INCLUDE BOTH CARPENTRY AND CABINET MAKING.

What You'll Do
- Construct walls, partitions, ceilings, floors, etc., during renovations and modifications to existing facilities
- Construct new wooden structures such as offices, meeting rooms, carports, storage sheds, etc.
- Fabricate and install built-in cabinets, counters, shelving, bookcases, desks, work tables, doors, door frames, etc.
- Remove and replace damaged or termite-eaten sills, floor joists, rafters, walls, partitions and all other portions of the wooden structures and apply termite treatment chemicals for spot treatment
- Read and interpret construction plans, specifications and sketches and determines materials needed
Special Work Requirements
- This position serves as a Disaster Response Worker and sometimes requires working beyond the normal workday, on weekends, and as necessary to meet schedules and deadlines.
- This position is required to have unescorted access to the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC). Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment related to the traffic management center requires a fingerprint-based national criminal history record check prior to assignment to this position as authorized by HRS846-2.7(b)(37) and in accordance with JTMC Policy No. 2016-B.06, Fingerprint-Based Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) and CHRC Clearance.
