Job Description

Job Title: YReads! Project Coordinator

Description:
The YReads! Project Coordinator is directly responsible for supervision, coordination, volunteer recruitment, retention and training of the YReads! tutoring program. This is a grant funded position with the potential to be renewed annually based on available funding.

Duties:

  • Plan and implement differentiated daily lesson/mentoring plans and support volunteers in carrying out activities.
  • Train volunteers on program facilitation as well as literacy skills, volunteer recruitment and retention.
  • Establish community and corporate relationships in order to promote the program
  • Organize and present events and activities aimed at volunteer/mentor retention and appreciation.
  • Form relationships with principal, guidance staff and reading specialists at program school sites to promote a team approach to youth mentoring.
  • Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to the legislature, employees, volunteers, members and the community at large.
  • Prepare or help prepare the budget and ensure operations are within the approved budget.
  • Ensure all governmental, YMCA, and organizational records and reporting requirements are in compliance.
  • Model healthy behaviors in line with YMCA's Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
  • Train and supervise program assistant
  • Facilitate diagnostic assessments
  • Plan and host four family engagement activities

Requirements: Candidate must have strong communication, organizational and supervisory skills and be able to manage large groups of children. Candidate should be independent, intrinsically motivated, and maintain a mindset of inclusivity and diversity. Must possess a Bachelor's degree in education or related field, minimum 1-2 years experience in education or volunteer development and minimum 2-years experience working with children. Must possess a valid Florida driver's license; position requires 10-15% local travel.
