JPI has an exciting opportunity for a SkillBridge Intern to join our Recruiting, Training & Development (RTD) and Construction Operations teams through a structured, 180-day transitional training experience designed for Department of Defense SkillBridge participants.
This internship provides progressive exposure to safety, construction operations, field coordination, digital construction tools, and multifamily stage-and-sequence execution through a combination of Academy instruction, Operations Support Center (OSC) rotations, and active jobsite assignments. The program is structured to develop job-ready talent through foundational certifications, mentored field learning, and a capstone project aligned with JPI’s RTD department. Successful participants will build the habits, technical familiarity, and documentation discipline needed to contribute to live project operations from day one after military separation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Phase 1: Foundational Orientation, Safety, and OSC Exposure
- Complete onboarding and safety readiness activities, including OSHA 30, CPR (as required), and JPI mandatory safety training.
- Shadow Operations Support Center (OSC) personnel across designated verticals and complete assigned support tasks that connect to active construction projects.
- Learn how centralized support teams contribute to field execution, documentation, communication flow, and issue resolution.
- Participate in supervised field orientation activities on an OSC-supported project site (e.g., safety walks, SWPPP observations, EAP awareness, checklist execution, documentation assignments).
- Observe and assist with site opening/closing procedures, material receipt, and daily routine support under supervision.
- Walk with safety and third-party inspectors to understand compliance expectations and field quality oversight practices.
Phase 2: Academy Training and Technical Development
- Complete the Academy curriculum covering JPI culture and mindset, construction technology, construction knowledge, construction operations, and trade operations.
- Participate in simulated jobsite scenarios, team-based problem-solving exercises, instructor-led training, and structured site visits.
- Complete training in construction technology platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, OpenSpace, and DroneDeploy.
- Successfully complete course assessments measured by accuracy and time-to-complete while meeting participation and professionalism expectations.
- Receive and respond to instructor/mentor feedback related to performance, mindset, and growth.
Phase 3: Field Production and Project Oversight Training
- Report to the assigned Construction Manager and participate in daily site operations on an active multifamily project.
- Support day-to-day GC oversight activities by completing assigned observations, updating status information, and assisting with documentation tied to quality, safety, schedule, and field execution.
- Develop working knowledge of multifamily stage-and-sequence responsibilities (horizontal, vertical/rough, exterior/site, finishes, and turnover).
- Use JPI construction technology tools in live field conditions to document progress, support accountability, and reinforce project visibility.
- Participate in trade coordination support, field communication routines, and supervised issue escalation as directed.
- Demonstrate growth in field presence, planning awareness, documentation quality, and execution discipline while working with project teams.
Phase 4: Capstone, Training Development, and Career Readiness
- Lead (under supervision) a defined small-scale project component or scope to demonstrate integrated understanding of safety, planning, execution, and documentation.
- Develop a capstone SOP and training plan for a stage-and-sequence topic in alignment with RTD.
- Create a one-hour training module to support future JPI employee development in a defined construction topic or phase.
- Participate in career readiness activities (resume refinement, personal brand preparation, interview coaching, and mock interviews).
- Present completed capstone work and demonstrate readiness for transition into civilian construction employment.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support special projects assigned by RTD, Construction Operations, or the jobsite leadership team.
- Travel within the metro area or to project sites (as needed) to support training rotations and field learning objectives.
