Senior Site Reliability Engineer – Quantum Computing (f/m/d)
Job Description
eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future.
We are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to drive the reliability, scalability, and operability of the software systems powering our trapped-ion quantum computers.
Responsibilities:
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer – Quantum Computing (f/m/d), you will take end-to-end responsibility for the reliability, stability, and operability of our software that operates our quantum computers. You will act as a technical authority for system reliability, shaping how our quantum computers are operated, monitored, and evolved in production-like lab environments. This is an on-site position in Siegen or Hamburg, working closely with software engineers, firmware developers, physicists, and hardware engineers in an interdisciplinary environment.
Own the reliability strategy for the quantum control and quantum program execution stack
Define and continuously refine SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and operational guardrails
Design and evolve the observability architecture across software, infrastructure, and hardware-adjacent layers
Lead incident response, post-mortems, and root cause analyses for critical system failures
Proactively identify systemic risks and drive mitigation strategies
Drive automation initiatives to reduce operational toil and improve system stability
Establish and maintain operational standards, runbooks, and documentation
Shape CI/CD and release processes with a strong focus on reliability and safe deployments
Act as a trusted partner for development teams when designing production-ready systems
Mentor engineers and raise reliability awareness across the organization
