Position:  CNS Technology Support Specialist

Position Purpose:  Installing, supporting, and maintaining the Child Nutrition Services (CNS) Department information systems, computers, operating systems, and related technology used by the CNS Department and in school building kitchens and concessions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with the KPS administration staff on the development of processes executed through the use of school owned software applications.
  • Training of Child Nutrition Services Department employees on how to correctly use Child Nutrition Services Department information systems.
  • Audit and update applications to maintain data integrity.
  • Provide reports as needed by KPS employees as well as reports needed to meet State of Michigan and the U.S. Department of Agriculture requirements.
  • Work with the KPS server team on CNS application requirements and updates as needed.
  • Provide support via phone and/or email  to users with questions on applications supported by your position.
  • Work with specified vendors to resolve application design issues and errors.
  • Troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Install, configure and maintain a variety of computer and instructional technology including, but not limited to:  Computer, Mobile Devices, Printers, Projectors.
  • Diagnose computer problems, setup, configure and test equipment.
  • Repair hardware problems, setup, configure and test equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and completely with school staff regarding status of service requests.
  • Maintain ticketing system and inventory records as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Child Nutrition and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:  Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.

Travel Requirements:  Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:  

  • Understanding computer database structure and terminology.
  • Understanding of the Microsoft Windows and Google Chrome operating systems, along with the devices that run the OS.
  • Strong computer system hardware and operating system troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written communication.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in large and small groups.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with families, students, staff and the school community.
  • Ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
  • Advanced understanding of the Google suite of applications. 

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Driver's License.
  • Associate's Degree (or higher) in a technology-related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience providing end-user support of software applications, including Microsoft Office, Google Apps for Education, and various other District-utilized software required.
  • Preferred experience with school-related information systems.
    • Examples include:  Rocket Scan, Horizon/Solana POS Systems, Health-e Pro, and Synergy.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
  • Work Environment:  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.
  • Mental Functions:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
