Position Summary
Provides an aesthetic and safe access to work environment through landscape and preventive maintenance programs for inside and outside hospital property and equipment. Provides preventive and general maintenance services on hospital movable and fixed capital equipment in order to repair and prevent premature wear and malfunctioning.
Education
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
- Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical or related field.
Experience
Required
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance or a mechanical-related field, such as automotive repair, machine shop operations, or similar technical environments.
Preferred
- Three (3) or more years of experience in grounds maintenance or a mechanical-related field.
- Previous healthcare or hospital maintenance experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of and ability to safely use basic hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment related to grounds maintenance and mechanical work.
- Ability to follow written instructions and established procedures.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document work performed and actions taken.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to identify maintenance needs and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and professional environment.
Computer Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with standard desktop and Windows-based computer systems.
- Basic knowledge of:
- Email applications
- E-learning platforms
- Intranet systems
- General computer navigation
- Ability to learn and use additional software applications as required to perform job responsibilities.
Essential Functions
- Perform maintenance procedures on all hospital-owned outdoor equipment, including lubrication, cleaning, minor adjustments, and repairs.
- Clean and remove trash from all exterior areas of the hospital campus.
- Monitor and evaluate contractor performance related to snow removal and lawn care services.
- Assist with snow and ice removal from sidewalks, stairways, parking lots, and other exterior areas as needed.
- Maintain parking lots by filling cracks and potholes.
- Provide support to maintenance staff when groundskeeping responsibilities permit.
- Update department information systems upon completion of work orders and document maintenance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and licensing requirements.
- Determine needs for replacement parts and supplies and coordinate ordering as appropriate.
- Complete daily timekeeping and work documentation within AIMS, including work orders, preventative maintenance activities, and miscellaneous assignments.
- Maintain age-specific safety precautions by ensuring:
- Tools and potentially hazardous objects are properly secured and not left in public areas.
- Adequate lighting is maintained for visibility and safety.
- Hallways, sidewalks, and pathways remain free of debris, equipment, tools, and liquid spills.
- Promote teamwork by communicating effectively, participating in decision-making, contributing to team objectives and projects, and seeking feedback to improve effectiveness.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
