Job Overview:
Highly experienced Marine Operations Welding Manager with extensive expertise in offshore pipeline installation, welding engineering, and vessel-based (Amazon/DLV2K) construction operations. Responsible for leading welding execution across marine spreads, ensuring compliance with project specifications, international standards, and HSE requirements. Strong capability in integrating welding engineering with offshore operations to optimize installation performance, reduce repair rates, and deliver projects within schedule and budget. Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams across pipelay vessels, spool bases, and fabrication yards in global offshore environments.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Lead and manage welding activities within offshore marine operations, including pipelay vessels, barges, and offshore spreads
Integrate welding engineering requirements with marine installation sequences to optimize productivity and cycle time
Oversee Welding Procedure Qualification (WPQT), Welder Qualification Testing (WQT), and offshore welding execution
Ensure compliance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements during offshore installation
Manage welding performance including repair rates, productivity, downtime, and continuous improvement initiatives
Coordinate closely with Offshore Operations, Project Management, QA/QC, and Engineering teams
Provide technical leadership on welding processes, consumables, and equipment selection for offshore applications
Optimize welding processes (manual, mechanized, automated) to enhance installation efficiency and reduce cycle time
Support vessel readiness, equipment setup, and commissioning for welding systems onboard
Manage subcontractors, vendors, and welding service providers for offshore execution
Monitor and control welding consumables usage, logistics, and offshore inventory management
Ensure strict adherence to HSE policies, conduct risk assessments, and promote safe working practices
Support project bidding and tendering with marine welding execution input, cycle time, and resource planning
Lead troubleshooting of offshore welding issues including fit-up, alignment, and weld defects
Develop and mentor offshore welding and QC personnel to meet project and client requirements
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Degree in Welding, Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgy, or related engineering discipline
- Professional certification (e.g., International Welding Engineer, AWS CWI/CWE or equivalent preferred)
- Strong knowledge of offshore welding codes, standards, and fracture mechanics requirements
- Expertise in pipeline welding processes: SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW, FCAW, CRA welding
- Familiarity with offshore installation methods (S-Lay, J-Lay, Reel-Lay)
- Understanding of NDT, AUT/PAUT systems, and welding quality control processes
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, clients, and offshore teams effectively
- Minimum 15–20 years of experience in offshore pipeline welding and marine operations
- Proven experience in managing welding operations on pipelay vessels and offshore construction spreads
- Strong track record in WPQT execution, offshore installation, and welding performance management
- Experience in major international offshore projects across Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Americas
- Demonstrated capability in integrating welding engineering with marine operations to achieve project KPIs (cost, schedule, quality, HSE)
- Experience in contractor and subcontractor management in offshore environments
Exposure to project bidding, tendering, and execution lifecycle
