Lead Respiratory Therapist
Job Description
Assists the Respiratory department to assure therapy performance is kept with the standards and the specific requirements of the JCAHO and MDPH. Assists with staffing and scheduling. Remains abreast of new procedures, legislation, equipment, work methods and is responsible for maintenance of equipment & does minor repairs. Performs others duties as assigned. Understands the special needs and demonstrates competence in treating patients of all ages. Is sensitive to the different social, cultural, religious, and interpersonal needs of each age group.
Responsibilities
(70%)* Assists the manager in supervising the respiratory therapists and provides direct patient care services.
(20%)* Assists duties affecting operations of the department Assists scheduling and staffing. Assists with inventory/supply ordering. Recommends new services and/or equipment. Assists with interviews and evaluating personnel. Regularly attends departmental staff meetings and assists with inservicing of staff Conducts meetings in the absence of the supervisor.
(5%)* Assists with problems between staff physicians, nursing personnel, department staff and Director of the department (includes, but not limited to morale, work methods, discipline).
(5%)* Assists with the PI program for all areas of the department. Consults on and suggests revisions and updates to policies and procedures as needed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Keeps abreast of new procedures, legislation, equipment, procedures and is responsible for maintenance of equipment.
Functions as a tech as needed.
Provides education and support on all equipment to staff, families, and physicians as needed.

ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 12 months of hire or transfer
BLS - Basic Life Support

Required Education
Associate's degree
Equivalent Experience: 2-5 years management experience preferred

Excellent observation, verbal and written skills.
Able to work in a fast pace environment, multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Effective interpersonal skills with strong focus on customer service.
Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) test must be done annually.
Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
