Position Title: School-Based Mental Health Provider
Location: Michigan
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: School Wellness Program Director / Clinical Supervisor

Position Summary

The School Wellness Program (SWP) is seeking a compassionate and qualified mental health professional to provide comprehensive school-based mental health services to students. Services include prevention, intervention, assessment, referral coordination, and individual and group counseling in a school setting.

This position supports the emotional, behavioral, and social well-being of students while collaborating with school staff, families, and community providers to ensure continuity of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The School-Based Mental Health Provider will deliver comprehensive mental health services to children and adolescents experiencing mild to moderate behavioral health needs. Services shall include:

 

  • Mental health services provided by a master’s level mental health professional.
  • Provide comprehensive mental health services including prevention, intervention, crisis response, and referrals for services not available onsite.
  • Deliver individual and group therapy services to students with appropriate consent.
  • Provide confidential minor-consented mental health services in accordance with Michigan state and federal law.
  • Conduct mental health screenings, assessments, and treatment planning.
  • Prevention and intervention services addressing emotional, behavioral, and social concerns.
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation and records.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, families, and community agencies to support student success.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and school wellness initiatives.
  • Assist with behavioral interventions, crisis management, and care coordination.
  • Promote trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices within the school environment.
  • Comprehensive health screenings, risk assessments, and anticipatory guidance as appropriate.
  • Education and support for students and families regarding mental health concerns and available resources.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • A minimum master’s degree in an appropriate behavioral health discipline, including:
    • Social Work (MSW)
    • Counseling
    • Marriage and Family Therapy
    • Psychology
  • Current Michigan licensure or limited licensure in one of the following:
    • LMSW or LLMSW
    • LPC or LLPC
    • LMFT or Limited Licensed MFT
    • Licensed Psychologist or Limited License Psychologist


Supervision Requirements

  • Fully licensed clinicians must participate in clinical supervision as required by agency policy.
  • Providers holding limited licensure must receive clinical supervision in accordance with Michigan licensure laws and regulations.
  • Supervision for limited license providers will be provided by a fully licensed clinician of the same discipline while completing hours toward full licensure.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, adolescents, or families.
  • Experience in school-based or community mental health settings.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and adolescent development.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Physical Demands: Clinical patient care environment with possible exposure to transmittable disease. Fast paced, changing environment. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to maneuver (pushing/pulling/lifting) the weight of patients. Ability to walk the equivalent of 2 miles per day.
