Imagine leading a culinary team surrounded by the breathtaking turquoise waters and towering peaks of Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park, one of Canada's most iconic and awe-inspiring destinations. We're looking for an Head Chef ready to create unforgettable dining experiences in a setting that's as extraordinary as the career opportunity itself.


This role may hired as either a Full-Time Year Round with reassignment during the fall/winter season or if preferred may stay a Seasonal Role.

As Head Chef of Maligne Lake, you will lead a seasonal culinary team across multiple dining concepts, including à la carte, banquet, café-style, and quick service operations. In this key leadership role, you will support, coach and inspire your team to deliver outstanding dining experiences, fostering a culture of teamwork, productivity, and professionalism. You will champion culinary best practices, uphold operational standards, and drive performance through a balanced scorecard approach across all kitchen operations.

Subsidized self-contained onsite accommodation is available during the season. If the joining as a Regular Full-Time year round employee there will also be accommodation available for your off-season assignment at one of our other locations


Responsibilities

  • Lead the culinary team to achieve success through a balanced scorecard framework focused on Financial Performance, Guest Experience, Team Engagement, and Promise to Place initiatives and targets.

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a seasonal based culinary team that supports a culture of teamwork, adaptability and productivity. 

  • Develop and execute Maligne culinary training that aligns with Pursuit food and beverage standard operating practices that effectively sets up each position type for success. 

  • Ensure opening, closing, and daily duty checklists are established, maintained, and followed in accordance with Pursuit culinary standards and Alberta food safety regulations. 

  • Identify and implement cross-functional opportunities to improve labor utilization, food cost management, and team member development. 

  • Support the execution of innovative, brand-aligned menus that meet guest expectations, monitor and report menu performance to the Food and Beverage Manager, proactively identify and address issues, and support menu and operational changes required to meet business demands. 

  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef in any required menu modifications identified, supported by analysis and accurate costings 

  • Mentor, expedite, and participate in food preparation, ensuring all dishes meet standards of quality, taste, portion, and presentation 

  • Manage operations within established budgets and forecasts while achieving labour and food cost targets. 

  • Prepare weekly staff schedules, balancing operational needs, budget constraints, and service standards.  

  • Maintain accurate par levels and oversee ordering using approved vendors, ensuring proper rotation and storage of product  

  • Conduct performance reviews, identify high-potential team members, and foster succession planning  

  • Conduct daily inspections on cleanliness, food safe best practices and organization within the kitchen areas  

  • Oversee the proper functioning and cleanliness of all kitchen equipment and workspaces.  

  • Promote a culture of workplace safety and ensure all staff and work areas adhere to safety standards  

  • Foster a positive, diverse, and inclusive work environment, focusing on coaching and development of less experienced team members  

  • Create a culture of empowerment, teamwork, continuous improvement, and a passion for positivity while providing exceptional hospitality  

  • Lead by example in upholding company standards, rules, and operating procedures.  

  • Motivate, coach, and, when necessary, performance manage team members professionally and in alignment with Pursuit’s policies.  
     

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven success in high-volume, fast-paced operations.  

    Additional certification(s) in Food & Beverage will be an advantage.   

  • Certified Advanced food Safety Training is considered an asset.  

    3 + years in a management level role  

  • Strong leadership and team development skills with a focus on coaching and growth.  

  • Excellent organization, communication, and attention to detail.  

  • Ability to maintain high standards of quality, consistency, and safety.  

  • Proficient knowledge of MS Excel, Word, & PowerPoint and inventory systems/practices  

  • Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in English language  

    Red Seal Certification or equivalent qualifications/experience

This position reports to the Maligne Lake Food & Beverage Operations Manager while also working closely with the Jasper Region Executive Chef and General Manager to support culinary strategy, standards, and business objectives.
