What is the Opportunity? 

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Survey Manager to lead all survey and geomatics activities on a major heavy civil infrastructure project in Fredericton, NB. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing survey operations, ensuring accuracy and quality of layout and data, and supporting construction teams through all phases of the project. You will collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and field crews to establish and maintain control networks, manage as-built reporting, and ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards. 
 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to the survey team.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute survey activities supporting a dam project. 
  • Establish, maintain, and verify survey control networks using KRT/RTK GPS systems, total stations, and conventional survey methods to support accurate, efficient construction layout.
  • Direct and review the completion of layout calculations, construction models, and other digital survey data requirements to ensure accuracy, constructability, and alignment with IFC drawings and construction sequencing.
  • Set up, calibrate, and support machine control systems (Trimble and Topcon) for earthworks, grading, and paving operations.
  • Coordinate machine control models and digital survey data with design, engineering, and construction teams to support timely model release and uninterrupted field operations.
  • Plan and manage drone flights for monthly construction progress monitoring, using aerial data to track schedule performance, support quantity verification, and improve visibility for project leadership and clients
  • Ensure survey deliverables meet contractual, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and timely submission of construction and final as‑built documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and subcontractors to align survey execution with construction sequencing and production targets.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate survey‑related risks that could impact productivity or schedule.
  • Support Aecon’s commitment to safety, quality, innovation, and continuous improvement. 

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive surveying experience on major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Degree or diploma in Geomatics, Survey Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and significant field experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Survey Manager or Senior Survey Lead role.
  • Proven experience supporting:
    • Bridge and structural works
    • Highway and roadway construction
    • Dam construction 
    • LRT, rail, or transit infrastructure
    • Utility installation and coordination
    • MSE wall layout, monitoring, and verification
    • Construction and record as‑built surveys
  • Strong hands‑on experience with KRT/RTK GPS surveying systems
  • Experience using drone data to support progress tracking, quantity verification, and schedule reporting
  • Working knowledge of ATEC specifications and City of Calgary standards and processes.
  • Proficiency with modern survey equipment and software (GPS, total stations, data collectors, CAD/Civil platforms).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, safety‑critical construction environment.
  • Experience working in congested urban environments with complex staging and schedule constraints
  • Experience on large, multi‑stakeholder urban infrastructure and transit projects
