Job Description

Job Summary: The Corporate Industrial Hygienist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing enterprise-wide industrial hygiene and ergonomics programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. This role evaluates occupational exposures across diverse operations, including poultry processing, live production, and rendering, and drives data-informed strategies to mitigate chemical, physical, and biological hazards. The position partners with cross-functional teams to promote a proactive occupational health culture and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Job Responsibilities:

Program Development and Risk Assessment

  • Develop and manage comprehensive industrial hygiene and ergonomics programs tailored to enhance workplace safety.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify chemical, physical, and biological hazards across all facilities.
  • Perform regular and ad-hoc air, noise, and ergonomic monitoring to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Analyze monitoring results, prepare detailed reports, and effectively communicate findings to leadership, ensuring informed decision-making.

Implementation and Oversight:

  • Recommend necessary corrective actions based on risk assessments and support their implementation to ensure closure of all action items.
  • Apply the hierarchy of controls to systematically reduce workplace exposures and support incident investigations related to occupational health.
  • Lead the design and deployment of ergonomic and injury prevention initiatives focused on reducing musculoskeletal risks, overseeing adherence to company's ergonomic programs consistently and effectively.

Training and Compliance:

  • Incorporate ergonomic principles into new installations or design changes through strategic partnerships.
  • Train employees and leaders on ergonomics and chemical safety, fostering a culture of safety awareness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support organization-wide safety initiatives.
  • Continuously track regulatory changes and maintain compliance with standards set by OSHA, NIOSH, and ACGIH.

Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant experience (manufacturing preferred)
  • Experience with exposure monitoring, data analysis, and reporting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene, ergonomics, exposure assessment, toxicology, and workplace hazard control principles across chemical, physical, and biological risks.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, and related occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Skill in conducting industrial hygiene and ergonomic risk assessments, exposure monitoring, air and noise sampling, and interpretation of analytical and monitoring data.
  • Skill in developing, implementing, and managing industrial hygiene, ergonomics, injury prevention, and exposure reduction programs across multiple facilities or operations.
  • Skill in preparing technical reports, communicating findings and recommendations to leadership, and supporting incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
  • Ability to apply the hierarchy of controls and recommend practical solutions to reduce occupational exposures and musculoskeletal risks.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally on facility design changes, safety initiatives, regulatory compliance efforts, and employee health protection programs.
  • Ability to train and influence employees and leaders on ergonomics, chemical safety, exposure prevention, and safe work practices.

Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • None. This is an individual contributor role

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to typical risks of injury in an office environment. 
  • Duties include a typical office setting including extensive computer work, sitting or standing.
