Associate (1–3 years of experience)
Job Description
Gerber Ciano Kelly Brady LLP is seeking an associate attorney with 1–3 years of experience located in Downstate New York to support the firm’s New York defense practice. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a junior attorney to develop litigation skills in a collaborative, forward-thinking law firm environment.
The ideal candidate will have early-career experience in general litigation and strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Exposure to insurance defense, professional liability, product liability, or appellate work is a plus but not required. This role requires initiative, sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Candidates must be admitted to practice in New York and reside within one of the five boroughs of New York City, as the position requires the ability to cover hearings and court appearances throughout Downstate New York in support of active defense matters. While proximity to a physical office is not required, availability and reliability for in-person court coverage is essential.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting with all phases of New York defense litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation
Drafting legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and legal memoranda
Conducting legal research and preparing comprehensive reports and legal analysis
Participating in court conferences, depositions, and hearings as appropriate
Managing deadlines and ensuring compliance with client guidelines
Maintaining accurate time records and billing entries
Required Skills/Qualifications:
1–3 years of litigation experience, preferably in a law firm setting
Admission to practice in New York (additional bar admissions in NJ, CT, or PA are a plus)
Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
Strong communication skills, professionalism, and a demonstrated work ethic
Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines consistently
Federal court or appellate experience is a plus, but not required
