The Opportunity
McElhanney is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Grande Prairie, AB team. This role is ideal for a Professional Engineer with strong leadership, proven design expertise, and the ability to guide teams through the successful delivery of diverse civil engineering projects.
You’ll work closely with municipalities and cities on a wide range of infrastructure, construction, and roadway projects, with opportunities to further develop your leadership, project management, technical design, and business development skills within a well‑established multidisciplinary firm.

What You’ll Do
Develop new business opportunities and build strategic relationships with key clients, agencies, and partners.
Work directly with clients while leading the project management of their projects.
Lead diverse civil projects from proposal through commissioning, including planning, design, and execution.
Produce and oversee detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for municipal and private land development projects, ensuring compliance with client and regulatory standards.
Deliver projects across a range of civil disciplines, including water and wastewater infrastructure, transportation, roadworks, bridges, erosion protection, grading and drainage, site servicing, outdoor recreational facilities, and infrastructure upgrades.
Lead multidisciplinary teams while mentoring and supporting junior and intermediate engineers and technical staff.
Develop engineering designs from preliminary concepts and sketches using Civil 3D and other technical software as required.
Coordinate and prepare approval documents, construction and development cost estimates, tender packages, and contracts.
Collaborate with geomatics, materials testing, and environmental teams to support a holistic approach to project delivery.
Ensure project schedules, budgets, and quality control standards are met.
Complete field inspections to monitor work quality and progress.
What You’ll Bring
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
Experience in a construction or engineering consulting environment is an asset.
Ability to work well in a collaborative, team environment.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, water and sewer modelling software, Excel, and related design tools.
Demonstrated sound business development and client liaison skills and a keen entrepreneurial spirit
High attention to detail, productivity, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with all government levels, construction contractors, and developers.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
