
Operator 8 (KMCC)
Job Description
The Primary Purpose of the Operator 8 is to facilitate the safe operation and maintenance of liquid petroleum products assets including storage tanks, pipelines, truck-offloading racks, pumps, motors ,valves, meters, pigging stations and other auxiliary equipment.
What You Will Do
- Accept pipeline deliveries of liquid petroleum products and direct products to the appropriate storage tanks. Operate computer- and motor-controlled equipment, as well as manually operate valves on pipelines and manifolds.
- Maintain accurate inventory and operational data using computerized systems and, when required, by climbing, gauging tanks, and sampling product.
- Handle and test liquid petroleum products in accordance with established procedures.
- Load and assist with the unloading of trucks.
- Perform or assist with preventive, routine, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Coordinate product deliveries with customers, truck drivers, and third-party facilities.
- Respond to call-outs to troubleshoot or perform maintenance on facility equipment.
- Serve as a first responder during spill or emergency situations.
- Start, stop, and operate pumps within defined operating parameters.
- Ensure the cost-effective and efficient operation of pumps and associated equipment at pipeline terminals and pump stations.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain pumps, seals, valves, and instrumentation.
- Install, repair, service, and maintain valves, piping, pipeline appurtenances, corrosion protection systems, measurement equipment, and storage facilities.
- Maintain the general upkeep of all facilities and equipment, including pipeline rights-of-way, gathering and storage areas; perform tasks such as excavation, pipeline repair, coating, backfilling, concrete work, painting, building erection, and vegetation control.
- Operate, maintain, adjust, and perform minor repairs on equipment such as industrial wheeled tractors, test equipment, and company vehicles.
- Represent the Company in interactions with landowners, tenants, public officials, emergency responders, and at local meetings (e.g., One Call, pipeline groups, soil conservation districts, U.S. Forest Service).
- Oversee construction and maintenance activities performed by third-party contractors.
- Train and oversee Company personnel and third-party personnel as required, including employees in progression, transport drivers, contractors, and visitors.
- Perform governmental compliance activities with applicable agencies (DOT, state agencies, EPA, U.S. Forest Service, etc.).
- Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
- Participate in the development of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) procedures, site-specific procedures, project scopes, and work plans.
- Complete all required documentation and recordkeeping accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, regulatory requirements, and Company tariff requirements.
- Demonstrate a commitment to operational excellence.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be available to respond to callouts and emergencies during and outside regular business hours, including after-dark hours, and carry a communication device as required.
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Inspect third-party construction activities as directed.
- Overtime is anticipated and may be required.
- Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work with minimal supervision.

- Successful candidate must pass a drug screen and comprehensive background check following a conditional offer of employment.
- Possesses basic computer skills, including sending and receiving emails, creating and maintaining records, and operating motor-controlled valves and related systems for product receipt, tank transfers, and truck loading.
- Ability to operate motor-controlled valves and perform tasks associated with receiving products, directing products to tanks, and delivering products to tank trucks.
- Ability to accept supervision and work effectively and cooperatively with others.
- Familiarity with, or the ability to learn, the use of basic hand tools and to perform preventive and basic maintenance on terminal equipment.
- Basic knowledge of, or willingness to learn, petroleum transportation, storage, and distribution systems, as well as electrical and/or mechanical equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs, and other technical diagrams.
- Knowledge of and experience with safe handling practices for flammable gases and liquids, as well as high- and low-pressure systems.
- Ability to analyze, adjust, and perform minor repairs on pumps and related equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to frequently enter confined spaces and climb to, work from, and navigate elevated platforms, excavated areas, ladders, stairwells, walkways, and similar environments.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist on an occasional basis.
- May be required to work in low-light or limited-visibility areas.
