
Director Residential Underwriting and Services Initiatives
Job Description
- Lead by example and provide regular formal and informal feedback, coaching and mentorship to
team members
- Identify and develop future leaders, and conduct formal and informal performance reviews
- Foster a team environment focused on achieving all departmental objectives and goals in support
of the business plan
- Monitor productivity and workflow to ensure optimal team efficiency and quality
- Ensure team’s understanding of and adherence to operating procedures
- Be accountable for the maintenance of the team’s pipeline and adherence to the pipeline
management process
- Participate in budget planning and allocation and ensure team operations fall within allocated
Director budget
- Ensure team’s adherence to operating procedures and effective pipeline management
- Ensure prudent credit decisions are made on complex mortgage files
- Review and approve loan terms and pricing within delegated authority
- Manage and respond to escalation as appropriate
- Provide input to the Learning & Development team to drive continuous improvement and support
the Residential Underwriting team’s knowledge and skill development
- Support the development and delivery of change management plans by partnering with the
Operations team to provide feedback on the impact of change initiatives to the Residential
Underwriting team, and act as a change champion throughout the process
- Monitor service levels and take appropriate actions such as partnering with Operations and Sales
to further advance service initiatives and efforts
- Lead process improvements and provide strategic direction aimed at enhancing operational
efficiency
- Lead special projects as required
- Ensure team’s adherence to defined Service Level Agreements, including acknowledging
applications and following up on additional required information
- Liaise with the Sales team to facilitate portfolio progression, support broker relationships and
maximize underwriting effectiveness
- Work effectively with all internal and external business partners
- Remain current on latest industry developments and market trends to secure competitive
advantage
• University degree in related area or discipline
• Additional relevant accreditation(s), certification(s) are assets
• 5+ years leading a team within mortgage lending
• In depth understanding of residential mortgage products
• Significant experience in reviewing residential mortgages
• Strong organizational, time-management and analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal relationship building and listening skills
• Motivates and engages team through fostering a collaborative team environment
• Excellent written / verbal communication and professional maturity
