Job Description
Reuters has an exciting opportunity for a journalist to join a dynamic team in Egypt delivering fast, accurate and impartial breaking news coverage in Arabic from across the Middle East and North Africa, alongside tracking and tackling misinformation online.
We are looking for someone with a passion for current affairs, expertise in navigating social networks and a track record in spotting emerging trends and hoaxes. Most importantly, you will show sharp research skills and a rigorous, analytical approach to problem-solving.
This is a fixed-term position for 12 months.
About the role:
As the Fact-Checking Producer, you will:
Monitor and gather news from the Middle East and North Africa through wires, social media, official sources, and other channels to identify and break news in real time.
Produce fact-checks, verification reports, and explanatory content in Arabic, both reactively and proactively.
Verify information, claims, and user-generated content using established editorial and open-source investigative techniques.
Track emerging misinformation trends across platforms such as Facebook, X, TikTok, and LinkedIn, flagging risks to editorial teams.
Ensure news is quickly edited to a high standard of accuracy, balance, style, objectivity and reliable sourcing. Work as part of team with other sub editors to ensure content moves quickly to clients.
Write and publish breaking news alerts (snaps), newsbreaks and short stories in Arabic with speed, clarity, and precision, adhering to Reuters’ editorial standards.
Liaise with the Arabic domestic service on translations of content, including updates, newsmakers, timelines, and wrap-ups.
Build and maintain a strong network of regional contacts to support reporting, verification, and story development.
Contribute to live coverage of major events, including political developments, conflicts, natural disasters, and economic shifts.
Develop regional expertise and subject-matter knowledge to enhance both reporting depth and verification quality.
Understands client needs and the competitive news landscape through regular interaction and feedback.
Embrace multimedia storytelling, using the most appropriate formats including text, images, video, and graphics.
About You:
You’ll be a strong fit for the Fact-Checking Producer role if you have:
Mid-level journalism experience, with strong Arabic-language reporting and writing skills, and a developing focus on Middle East coverage.
Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
A solid understanding of newsroom workflows and the interaction between editorial and operational teams.
Strong analytical skills and sound editorial judgment, with the ability to suggest improvements to coverage and processes.
A fair and balanced approach, with the confidence to make clear, timely decisions.
The flexibility to work a range of shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays, in a 24/7 news operation.
