Our Consulting Delivery Hub (CDH) in India is a critical part of ERM’s global consulting model enabling scalable, high-quality delivery across regions and service lines. CDH teams work in close partnership with regional consultants to support global client projects, providing specialist expertise, driving consistency, and enhancing delivery efficiency across our most important programmes.

Why This Role Matters

As an Air Quality Consulting Associate, you will support ERM's global consulting delivery by providing technical air quality, permitting, and regulatory compliance support for complex industrial and infrastructure projects. You will work within ERM’s Air Quality and Climate Change team, partnering with consultants, project managers, and clients across North America to deliver high-quality environmental assessments, permit applications, and compliance solutions. This role is critical to helping clients navigate evolving environmental regulations while ensuring efficient, scalable, and technically robust project delivery.

What Your Impact Is

  • Deliver accurate and technically sound air quality analyses, permitting documents, and compliance assessments that support successful client project outcomes.

  • Contribute to the timely preparation and submission of regulatory applications, helping clients obtain necessary environmental approvals and permits.

  • Quantify and evaluate air emissions data to support compliance reporting, emissions inventories, and climate-related initiatives.

  • Maintain high-quality standards across project deliverables while effectively managing multiple assignments and deadlines.

  • Build productive relationships with clients, regulators, and project teams to facilitate efficient project execution and positive stakeholder engagement.

  • Support ERM's reputation for technical excellence through rigorous analysis, problem-solving, and continuous learning in air quality and climate change regulations.

What You’ll Bring

  • BS in chemical, environmental, or mechanical engineering; MS preferred but not mandatory.

  • Recent graduate to 3 years of direct consulting or industry experience involving environmental permitting and compliance. Experience with air quality construction permits and Title V permitting; PSD, NSR, Best Available Control Technology (BACT), and/or MACT experience a plus.

  • Demonstrated understanding of air emissions and emission reporting processes.

  • Strong hands-on spreadsheet and database comprehension.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting projects within the oil & gas, power generation, chemical manufacturing, or technology sectors.

  • Exposure to air quality permitting programs, including Title V, PSD, New Source Review (NSR), MACT, or BACT assessments.

  • Familiarity with greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, climate change programs, or emissions reporting frameworks.

  • Experience working in a global consulting, shared services, or matrixed project delivery environment.

  • Relevant certifications, advanced coursework, or postgraduate qualification in environmental engineering, air quality, sustainability, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct air quality analyses, assess regulatory compliance, and perform regulatory applicability evaluations.

  • Develop complete and accurate air quality permits for Title V, Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD), and New Source Review compliance. Interact with local regulators to steward permit application review and issuance.

  • Prepare emission inventory reports; quantify air pollutant emissions and impacts.

  • Implement climate change projects, such as greenhouse gas inventories.

  • Prepare recommendations and reporting of results, (i.e., emissions testing, hours of operations limits, or control devices).

  • Perform multiple tasks within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.

  • Interact and maintain successful relationships with clients, ERM employees, and subcontractors.
