Position Scope

Drives gasoline or diesel-powered tractor, tractor trailer combination, or box truck to transport and deliver products or materials in loose or packaged form to our customers.  Installation of fixtures at designated customer locations with assistance as needed.



Position Duties and Responsibilities

Drives truck to destination.

Observes all safety regulations of the Department of Transportation and notifies the Logistics Supervisor in advance when a potential violation may occur and works with the Logistics Supervisor to develop a solution which avoids an unsafe situation.

Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.

Assists loading and unloading trucks and trailers, listing product on proper forms.

Reviews bill of lading to ensure that all items listed are loaded and that all loaded items are listed.  Corrects any discrepancies prior to leaving the loading dock.

Ensures that specialized packaging (blanket wrap) and loading are implemented properly for maximum protection of the product and maximum efficiency of available truck space.

Pads, stacks, straps, and secures items in position on truck to prevent damage during shipment.

Helps manage the driving time and routes to assure maximum output.

Upon delivery, double checks unloaded items against the bill of lading and secures a signature from the recipient on the bill of lading.

Upon delivery, collects and accounts for all packing accessories (i.e. blankets, checking material, straps, etc.) and stores them neatly in the trailer.

Counts packing accessories and inspects them for defects before and after trips.  Notifies Logistics Supervisor of items that must be replaced and makes sure that adequate supplies are present on the trailer prior to each trip.

Maintains driver log according to Department of Transportation regulations.

Submits all bills of lading, logs, and other paperwork to Supervisor upon return.

Is an important representative of the company who maintains a professional appearance and treats all customers with respect and works with Customers to meet or exceed their transportation needs.

Performs all installations efficiently and with respect for the customer and his property.

Has knowledge of and possesses assembly skills.

Assures the work area, and aisles around them, and equipment (including the truck cab) are kept clean and free of debris.

Oversees the training of team members to meet established standards.

Follows procedures in company handbook and other documents.

Displays a sense of urgency towards completing assigned tasks.

Maintains outstanding attendance.

Is dependable and displays a strong work ethic.

Works within a team concept and contributes to a positive work environment.

Demonstrates a professional attitude in approaching job assignment.

Communicates effectively to internal customers, verbally and in writing.

Maintains professional image to customer and other employees.

Assists in developing timely solutions to problems.

Maintains a safe working environment, making sure employees will not get in a situation to be injured.

Performs other duties that may be assigned on an as-required basis.



Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   


Must be committed to driving safely.

Must have appropriate level of CDL license.

Must pass DOT physical before being hired and every two years thereafter.

Meets DOT regulations.

Must be willing to work with customers.

Must have ability to learn routes and be able to read maps and street guides.

Must be flexible.

Must accept responsibility for on-time deliveries.

Must be committed to drug-free driving.

Ability to work cooperatively, train, and educate others. 

Ability to work productively and independently with little or no supervision.

Ability to do simple mathematical calculations.

Good problem-solving skills with ability to trouble shoot and provide solutions to unplanned situations.

Must have knowledge and possess assembly skills.

Must have above average knowledge of carpentry and possess carpentry skills.

Maintains high quality standards.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Ability to stand/walk for extended periods.

Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.



Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.  A minimum of two years driving a tractor-trailer is required.  Valid CDL driver’s license is required.  Must pass a physical and the DOT drug screen.



Physical Demand

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   


Talking/Hearing:  Must be able to exchange ideas and convey information to others and have ability to receive detailed information.

Reaching:  Extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Must be strong enough to drive a tractor trailer.

Stooping/Crouching:  Must be able to bend knees and balance to load and unload skids.

Lifting:  Raising objects weighting up to 50 pounds from lower to higher, higher to lower, and horizontal positions.

Fingering/Grasping:  Frequent repetitive hand and finger manipulation, including picking up and grasping tools and parts.

Wrist/Elbow movement:  Extended periods of repetitive wrist motion and stressful turning of hand/wrist/elbow.

Position requires the use of near, mid-range and far vision with clarity at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less.  The ability to judge distance and space relationships.  The ability to observe up and down or to the right or left (field of vision).
