Job Description

Main Activities and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
— Reports and works under the supervision of the Project Engineer, Senior Engineer and Structures Manager.
— Ensures that he/she understands the Project Brief and design requirements; raises Technical Queries and Requests for
information to ensure design information is complete and unambiguous.
— Drafts/prepares/self-checks, studies specification, reports, design calculations and structural details/sketches in accordance
with the project requirements including stability checks and compliance to appropriate codes.
— Ensures that the designs are correctly interpreted and represented on the drawings
— Provide drawings/sketches for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by Technicians.
— Ensure markups are delivered to the drafting team in a timely manner
— Reviews/incorporates comments of Design Checker.
— Checks/ prepares CAD drawings in accordance with the required standards as and when necessary.
— Review shop drawings
— Perform quality design checks and drawing reviews as required
— Organize, draft and coordinate technical documents
— Assist in the duties of the Project Manager and attend meetings as and when directed.
— Drafts correspondences for Project Manager or when directed communicates directly with the Design Team on day-to-day
matters.
— Works towards continuous improvement of the team by utilizing standardized calculation systems
— Carries out site inspections as instructed.
— Undergoes relevant trainings as directed.
— Comply with all role specific SHEQ obligations.
— Develop ability to apply safety in design to all projects.
— Prepare technical reports on small to medium projects.
— Apply legislations, standards, guidelines and project specifications.
— Other duties as directed, to help the company provide outstanding service to its customers.
Qualifications (Minimum and Desirable):
— Technical competence commensurate with a Design Engineer’s role.
— A Registered Civil Engineer recognised by the relevant licensure regulatory board
— Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Applications
— Good English communication Skills.
Experience, skills and organisational knowledge
— Minimum 4 years’ experience in the design of multi-level residential, commercial and institutional projects
— Experience in the design of both reinforced & post-tensioned concrete and structural steelwork
— Experience in design software including RAPT, RAM Concept, Microstran, and ETABS
— Has worked within an international design office and familiar with the Australian Standards is a plus
— Ability to check documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
— The ability to work as a team player, working with the wide variety of personalities and situations whilst remaining
professional and outcome focused.
— The ability to work independently and to communicate clearly with clients, management team, office team members,
colleagues and consultants.
— Attention to detail and the ability to follow up targets and deadlines to achieve outcomes.
— Developing technical skills across a broad range of areas within discipline.
— Developing skills in applying safety in design processes on projects
— Gaining experience in monitoring and managing the scope of multiple projects of varying complexity and size.
— Gaining experience in managing client relations and expectations
— Ability to apply QA and OH&S systems. Auditing of other more junior staff.
— Contributes to developing the technical capability of junior staff
— Gaining experience in supervising others on tasks
— Active participation in IQBE initiatives and Discipline Plans
— Gaining an understanding of WSP's organisational capability and how to access it.
— Aware of relevant systems,procedures and practices
— Aware of organisational approach to risk management, ethics and safety.
