Job Summary
Installs, maintains, and repairs wiring and cabling associated with data lines to include local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN) located within and under the ownership of Granite School District. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position.
 
Essential Functions

  • Designs wiring layouts for each installation.
  • Installs, maintains, terminates, and repairs fiber optic lines.
  • Communicates and cooperates with other trades when needed to complete tasks.
  • Responsible for pertinent record keeping, job control, hours and materials used, material acquisition, etc.
  • Responsible for District vehicles and tools assigned to incumbent's care.
  • Performs area maintenance to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Participates in education requirements of hourly workers in techniques, equipment, safety, policies, and procedures, as necessary.

Required Education and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have a current and valid Utah driver's license

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Requires good general knowledge related to cables, cable installation, cabling devices and tools associated with trade.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints or schematics necessary to complete tasks.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of all building and safety codes or regulations associated with assigned installations and repairs.
  • Must maintain a positive and helpful attitude.
  • Needs a good working knowledge of safety and equipment limitations.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes including pertinent aspects of TIA, NEC, OSHA, EPA, HCS, MSDS and ADA.
  • Must have basic mathematical skills.
  • Must be skilled in oral and written communications and interpersonal relations.
  • Must be able to plan work and organize hourly workers, materials and equipment for specific projects.

Working Environment
Works inside and outside the building to accomplish assigned tasks. Working conditions can be in hot and cold weather. Hazards may exist when using ladders, scaffolds, etc. May be subject to high locations, awkward positions, heat, noise, dirt, and confined spaces.  May have occasional stress from emergencies and in meeting deadlines.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear.  Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch.  Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
