Position Summary
The Sr. Mechanic Specialist performs preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, troubleshooting, changeovers, and equipment adjustments on automated packaging and cartoning equipment. This position works semi-autonomously while supporting operational excellence, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and company policies.
- Review, recommend, and assist in updating SOPs and Work Instructions as needed.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Follow Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) guidelines, including safe lifting practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure all tools, equipment, workstations, and storage areas remain organized and in good working condition.
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot automated packaging and cartoning equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of machine and equipment components using proper technical terminology.
- Perform complete machine changeovers, setups, and tear-downs independently.
- Execute major equipment adjustments and preventative maintenance work orders.
- Identify equipment issues, recommend solutions, and implement corrective actions with minimal supervision.
- Assist with repair and rebuild projects while supporting mechanics at all levels.
Communication & Documentation
- Communicate maintenance activities, equipment concerns, and operational issues to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain accurate and thorough maintenance records, logs, and documentation in accordance with SOPs and Work Instructions.
- Collaborate effectively with production, quality, and maintenance team members to achieve operational goals.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in site improvement initiatives focused on increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving equipment performance.
- Support continuous improvement efforts that drive safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.
- Provide practical recommendations for improving maintenance programs and equipment performance.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Required Knowledge
- Knowledge of automated flexible packaging systems, including form-fill-seal equipment and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems.
- Experience working in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of automated cartoning equipment.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to identify and properly use applicable hand tools.
- Demonstrated ability to perform equipment adjustments, repairs, rebuilds, and preventative maintenance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic I or equivalent role required.
- Preferred experience demonstrating machine and equipment adjustments, troubleshooting, and repair/rebuild project work.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Preferred Certifications
- Fork Truck Certification preferred.

- Ability to read and interpret business documents and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to prepare routine reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers and supervisors.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using standard units of measure.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems using established procedures and standardized solutions.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
