Position Overview
The Global Technology team in Bangalore has an immediate opening for an Experienced Materials and Process Engineer -Chemical/Contamination to support the Sealants and Fuel Testing and Characterization team which is part of Materials & Manufacturing Technology Integration (MMTI) team. The MMTI team is responsible for developing and implementing advanced manufacturing technologies and processes into the production systems for Boeing.
Position Responsibilities:
- Plays a pivotal role in overseeing the operations of a chemistry laboratory focused on sealants and fuel quality testing and investigations.
- Lead and execute sealants qualification, testing and development.
- This individual will leverage their comprehensive technical knowledge of both synthetic aviation fuels and petroleum-derived fuels to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
- Lead a team of technicians and scientists, providing mentorship and guidance while fostering a collaborative environment.
- Communicate findings effectively to stakeholders, translating technical information into actionable insights.
- Additionally, the engineer will stay abreast of regulatory requirements and advancements in fuel technology, Sealants development, driving continuous improvement initiatives within the lab.
- Their expertise will be essential in ensuring the highest standards of fuel quality and safety, ultimately contributing to the advancement of aviation fuel technologies.
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert for fuel testing and analytical data analysis techniques.
- Procure analytical equipment as and when needed.
- Communication of results and scientific interpretation is expected through preparation of professional technical reports and presentations.
- Providing input for periodic updates and reviews in the form of progress reports

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Production, Chemical Engineering, and Aerospace), or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
- 3+ years experience in analytical chemistry methods, including ability to determine the best test(s) to answer a given question.
- 2+ years experience in leading and managing laboratory teams.
- Experience in sealants and adhesives
- Experience with Fuel testing ASTM (ASTM D1655, ASTM D7566 and ASTM D4054) specifications and testing methods.
- Ability to mentor and train junior staff in laboratory procedures and best practices.
- Skills in managing timelines, resources, and budgets effectively.
- Strong ability to analyze complex data and identify trends.
- Capability to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to implementing best practices and continuous improvement initiatives in laboratory operations.
- Hands-on experience with at least several of the capabilities listed below in a professional environment is required.
- Operating and maintaining fuel/ sealants testing analytical instruments including but not limited to GC-MS, FTIR, NMR, Bomb Calorimeter, JFTOT, Distillation, Flash Point, Freezing Point, Digital Density & Viscosity, NIR and Elemental Analyzer.
- GCxGC-FID-MS for hydrocarbon composition analysis
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- PhD or Masters Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or any other associated field
- Experience in oil and gas industry and experience in conducting and managing investigations related to fuel quality issues.
- Knowledge of polymer chemistry
- In-depth understanding of fuel chemistry, including both synthetic aviation fuels and petroleum-derived fuels.
- Familiarity with ASTM, ISO and Indian specifications and testing methods.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to fuel quality and safety.
- Experience in Operating and maintaining fuel testing analytical instruments including but not limited to GC-MS, FTIR, NMR, Bomb Calorimeter, JFTOT, Distillation, Flash Point, Freezing Point, Digital Density & Viscosity, NIR and Elemental Analyzer.
Typical Education & Experience:
PhD or Masters in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or any other associated field with overall work experience of 5 to 8 years.
