Job Description

The Catering Staff position is responsible for supporting catering services for a variety of events, including galas, buffets, meetings, and concession stands for sporting events and the performing arts center. The ideal candidate will provide excellent customer service, assist with event setup and breakdown, and support the smooth operation of food service functions across different campus venues as well as offsite event locations.

Key Responsibilities:

Catering Event Services:

  • Set up, serve, and break down catering events, including formal galas, buffets, and meeting services.
  • Ensure food and beverage stations are well-stocked, clean, and properly presented.
  • Assist with food preparation, plating, and serving as needed during events.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout events.

Concessions Services (Sports & Performing Arts Centers):

  • Provide high-quality service at concessions stands, ensuring fast and accurate food and beverage transactions.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of concessions stands for sports events, concerts, and performances.
  • Ensure that all health and safety regulations are followed in the preparation and distribution of food and beverages.
  • Engage with customers to create a welcoming environment and provide prompt service during events.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist in the organization and preparation of food for smaller meetings, campus functions, and special events.
  • Support the kitchen staff with basic food prep, restocking supplies, and cleaning.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Catering Manager or Supervisor, including helping with event coordination or special requests.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and reporting as needed.
  • Assist with student staff instruction for larger events.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; previous catering or food service experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy trays or equipment (up to 25 lbs) as needed.
  • Flexible schedule, with the ability to work evenings and weekends based on event needs.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures is a plus.
  • Must be able to work well with people and handle various event types.
  • Must have a valid driver's license. Daily operations require catering staff to operate golf carts, catering van and box truck.

Working Conditions:

  • Varied shifts based on event schedule, including weekends and evenings.
  • Physical demands may include standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and performing manual tasks during event setups and breakdowns.

Annual Security & Fire Safety Report

The federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) requires colleges and universities, both public and private, participating in federal student aid programs to disclose campus safety information, and imposes certain basic requirements for handling incidents of sexual violence and emergency situations.

Florida Tech’s 2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Florida Tech; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.

The numbers provided include crime statistics that were reported to local law enforcement agencies, campus security and other Campus Security Authorities.

The report also includes institutional policy statements regarding campus safety and security measures; descriptions of prevention and awareness programs; related university procedures and important guidance; and other essential safety information.

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts of all collegiate work must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Office of Human Resources prior to the first day of employment. All international degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).
