Brandeis University is seeking a dynamic, hands-on University Transportation System Manager to lead a vital service that keeps our community connected, safe, and moving.

This is not a desk-only role. You will be out in the field—riding buses, engaging with students, analyzing real-time data, and ensuring our transportation system runs smoothly across campus, downtown Waltham, and the Boston/Cambridge area.

What You Will Do

  • General Services 50% 

The Transportation system manager is the university community’s primary contact for the majority of transportation services and programs.  Ensures third party vendor is meeting contractual obligations of quality and safety of service, maintenance of vehicles, quality of drivers etc. In collaboration with the third-party vendor, reviews and revises transportation schedules to ensure optimal efficiency in terms of both costs and carbon emissions. Conducts quality inspections, assesses training needs, and schedules for appropriate action. Provide and monitor ridership data and develop regular reporting and recommendations.  Generates expense projections on transit service programs. Develop and implement a quality assurance program for transportation services quality of ridership expectations. Oversee transportation budget and monitoring all expenses to ensure the service stays within funding limitations.

  • Communication and Program Development 30%

Compose and distribute individual and campus-wide communications about transportation services, including website, email, social media, printed media, phone information, and presentations to groups. Responds and monitors transportation inquiries via email, telephone, social media etc. Maintains the transportation website and ensures that the mobile application provided by the third-party vendor is up to date and in sync.  In an effort for continuous service improvements, develops and deploys surveys on the quality and consistency of services. Works to develop, recommend, advocate, and promote alternative means of transportation for students, faculty, and staff, including but not limited to public transportation, university transportation services, carpooling and rideshare matching, biking and walking, and off-site parking. Investigates and develops a program that may include distributing to departments and students Charlie Cards, mTickets, Commuter rail MBTA subsidies, etc.

  • Management of Student Staff 20% 

Leads, directs, coordinates, and monitors Student staff and interns. Student staff will be recruited to two programs within transportation services.  Conduct student recruitment and coordinate staffing assignments to ensure shifts are staffed appropriately for Brandeis direct services. Assesses training needs and facilitates ongoing training to ensure maximum effectiveness and safety. Orients staff to department and university policies and procedures. Train new employees in all aspects of their work and provide ongoing and continuous feedback. Provide input on staff performance. Examples of services student staff will provide are quality assurance riders who rate the quality of the service from the rider experience against a specific criterion set by the university.  The other direct service is drivers providing accessibility transportation services to the campus.

What You Bring

  • Two years of college-level coursework (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field

  • Five years of transportation-related experience

  • Experience coordinating operations or supporting administrative functions

  • Familiarity with transportation systems, logistics, or mobility programs

  • Comfort with data analysis and reporting

  • Experience with social media or digital communications

  • Valid driver’s license

Bonus: Experience in higher education or campus transportation
