1. Previous Experience Required:

High School diploma required, or equivalent

Prefer 1-3 years previous supervisory experience in Security field or customer service

Specialized or Technical Education Required:

Must attain IAHSS Basic and Supervisor certifications within 3 months of hire into position.

Incumbent will be trained as required, attend in-services and meetings as required

Must exhibit excellent communication skills (oral and written)

Must possess the ability to think on one’s feet and make quick decisions

Knowledge of restraining, State and Federal criminal codes, universal precautions, PPE, MOAB, etc

    Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities

    1. Responsible for supporting the Security Lieutenant in leading his/her assigned shift

    2. When assigned by Security Department leadership, will be available to perform the duties of a Security Officer. Will be allowed to wear Sergeant insignia at all times.

    3. Briefs Security officers on upcoming shift activity, when requested

    4. Leads and monitors staff assigned to his/her shift, when requested

    5. Responsible for monitoring the electronic surveillance equipment, when requested

    6. Responsible for proximity access control system, when requested

    7. Assisting Security Department leadership with annual evaluations of staff, when requested

    8. Responsible for initial evaluation training development and written compliance exam for officers assigned to his/her shift, when requested

    9. Responsible for monitoring required license and certificates of officers assigned to his/her shift

    10. Monitor recertification in required courses, when requested

    11. Participate in interviews with applicants and make recommendations to Security Department leadership, when requested

    12. Inspects uniforms and notes any discrepancies

    13. Gives officers post assignments and schedule for meals/breaks

    14. Inspects radios for operation problems

    15. Interacts with Nursing Supervisor to resolve problems

    16. Inspects security equipment and video surveillance equipment and reports problems to Security Manager

    17. Supervises work of Security Officers, Dispatchers assigned to his/her shift. In addition, resolves any shift problems or conflicts, when requested

    18. Is responsible for ensuring adequate staff daily and report any issues to Security

    19. Is flexible and able to work when shifts are short of personnel

    20. Is responsible to assist Security Department leadership in the preparation of monthly shift schedules, when requested

    21. Reviews shift reports and follows up with officers to ensure compliance with shift requirements

    22. Encourage personnel to keep lines of communication open and to provide security personnel with opportunities to discuss issues and concerns

    23. Participates in formal disciplinary actions against security personnel, when requested

    24. Participates in training programs as directed by the Security Department leadership

    25. Completes reports as requested in a timely manner

    26. Recommends operational improvements to Security Department leadership

    27. Attends meetings and conducts in-services as directed

    28. Conducts security patrols and other duties in rotation with officers on each shift

    29. Monitors security forms and equipment inventory to ensure that sufficient quantities are available

    30. Is open and accessible to personnel under his/her supervision

    31. Fairly/consistently enforces all hospital and departmental policies and procedures

    32. Sets a positive example for personnel to follow

    33. Has the ability to communicate effectively through writing skills

    34. Has the ability to communicate effectively orally

    35. Discusses problems/concerns with Security Department leadership

    36. Shows competency in applying correct and effective crises prevention and intervention techniques

    37. Shows competency in understanding distinctions between administrative and clinical seclusion and restraint

    38. Shows competency in varying interaction techniques based on age of patient

    39. Shows competency in performing “Morgue Access” and “Release of Bodies” according to training guidelines

    40. Shows competency in performing :Patient Valuable Collection” according to training guidelines

    41. Supervises after hour courier functions, as needed

    42. Performs all other duties as assigned

    43. Follows North Oaks Health System’s compliance programs and all federal and state regulatory guidelines

    44. Ensures reports are written in a timely manner and proper follow-up conducted

    45. Ensures vehicle maintenance checklist is completed and deficiencies reported and/or corrected

    46. Ensures valuable are accounted for and secured upon receipt

    Examples of specific decision routinely made

    Analyzes incidents and decides action to be taken

    Evaluates current environment, activity or emergency room, weather conditions, crime, stats, census, PEC/OPC, etc. and directs staff accordingly

    Releases valuables to non-family members or next of kin

    Disposition of remains

    Reviews reports for accuracy and offers suggestions, improvements, etc.
