Job Description

At Materion, everyone is included, respected and offered opportunity to grow. Join us!

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of enterprise-wide network infrastructure across both IT and OT environments. This role requires deep expertise in modern firewall platforms, cloud-based security technologies, and scalable network architectures, while also contributing to the team’s broader responsibilities in routing, switching, wireless, remote connectivity, and overall network service reliability.

In addition to leading initiatives related to security, segmentation, and compliance with frameworks such as CMMC Level 2 and NIST 800‑171, the Senior Network Engineer participates as a core member of the network operations team. This includes supporting day‑to‑day operations, resolving escalations, collaborating on cross-functional design efforts, and ensuring continuity of service across diverse technology stacks and business requirements.

You will have an opportunity to:

Network Architecture, Design, and Implementation

  • Network Architecture, Design, and Implementation.

  • Lead the design of scalable, secure network architectures across LAN/WAN/Cloud/Remote environments.

  • Develop and enforce network standards, segmentation strategies, and high-availability designs.

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to support evolving business and security requirements.

Firewall, Security, and Compliance Engineering

  • Drive alignment of infrastructure with CMMC Level 2, NIST 800-171, and internal security policies.

  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to harden infrastructure, implement monitoring, and respond to audits.

  • Own baseline configurations, network ACLs, firewall policy, and access control enforcement.

Network Operations, Support, and Escalation

  • Provide technical mentorship to Engineers and Analysts.

  • Set standards for documentation, escalation handling, and change control.

  • Advocate for infrastructure needs in leadership-level discussions.

Documentation, Governance, and Mentorship

  • Act as the senior-most escalation point for critical infrastructure outages.

  • Lead root cause investigations and drive systemic improvements based on findings.

  • Document findings for post-incident reporting and compliance evidence.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration and Project Leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Formal education or demonstrated equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines.  Professional certifications in networking or security (e.g., CCNP, PCNSE, NSE, or equivalent experience).  Practical leadership and demonstrated expertise gained through realworld enterprise experience is considered equally—if not more—important than formal education credentials.

  • Advanced certifications related to network architecture, cloud networking, or cybersecurity frameworks. Training or certification aligned with compliance requirements such as CMMC or NIST 800171 preferred.

  • Significant hands-on experience in network engineering roles with demonstrated success designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network solutions. Experience managing or architecting firewall platforms and cloud-integrated security solutions. Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, drive standardization, and deliver network projects across distributed environments.

  • Experience in regulated environments (e.g., manufacturing, defense, finance, healthcare) is a plus, specifically manufacturing and defense.  Experience supporting compliance-aligned network architectures (e.g., CMMC Level 2, NIST 800171).  Background in hybrid IT/OT environments, cloud networking, or crossdomain segmentation strategies preferred.

  • Deep expertise in enterprise networking technologies, including routing, switching, segmentation, VPNs, and high‑availability designs.

  • Strong understanding of firewall technologies, security principles, and network boundary controls.

  • Ability to design, document, and maintain complex network and firewall architectures.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues and perform root-cause analysis.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across cross‑functional teams.

  • Ability to contribute to and enforce configuration standards, governance models, and operational best practices.

Preferred:

  • Experience with modern enterprise networking platforms such as Palo Alto, Cisco, Arista, or equivalent vendors.

  • Exposure to cloud networking and security platforms (e.g., Prisma Cloud, Azure/AWS networking).

  • Familiarity with network automation concepts or tools (Ansible, Python, APIs).

  • Experience integrating IT and OT networks or supporting industrial control environments. Experience with AI.
