Within TPD, the Cloud Platform Supervisory Department (CPSD) develops and manages Rakuten's state-of-the-art cloud platform, empowering global scalability and accelerating innovation across its diverse business units.

The Cloud Platform Enablement Department (CPED) drives Rakuten Group's global infrastructure strategy by building and operating a robust private cloud platform and supporting public cloud environments. We empower application engineers to build reliable and scalable systems while ensuring unified support and consistent quality across all departments.
The Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE) is a cross-functional team responsible for creating and implementing cloud-related best practices, guidelines, and governance policies. Our primary mission is to ensure that cloud resources are used effectively and efficiently to achieve Rakuten's business objectives. We drive our multi-cloud strategy across GCP, AWS, Azure, and OCI, accelerating cloud adoption, enhancing security, standardizing processes, fostering faster innovation, and optimizing cost efficiency (FinOps) throughout the organization.

As public cloud adoption continues to grow across the organization, we need dedicated cloud engineers to handle the increasing volume of cloud requests, configuration tasks, and user inquiries. We are looking for an engineer who can take ownership of day-to-day cloud operations and grow as a core member of the team, enabling existing members to focus on higher-level architecture and governance work.
Position Details
You will be responsible for day-to-day cloud operations across our multi-cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI), while also collaborating with internal teams and vendors, driving improvements to existing cloud environments, and contributing to team knowledge management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cloud Governance Improvement
- Periodically review and propose improvements to governance policies, security guardrails, and operational rules
- Update and promote best practices based on analysis of organization-wide cloud usage trends
- Propose and implement automation and efficiency improvements for CCoE operations (including scripting and tooling)
- Analyze recurring issues and request patterns, and reflect findings into preventive measures and standardization efforts
2. Cloud Request Handling
- Review and process new public cloud account, project, and subscription creation requests
- Drive approval workflows via Jira tickets
- Verify that request contents meet governance policies and security requirements
- Communicate with requesters to answer questions and request additional information as needed
3. Cloud Configuration & Build Operations
- Perform configuration tasks for IAM, networking, storage, and other cloud resources following Change Management procedures
- Execute operations based on existing runbooks and manuals
- Conduct pre/post-checks, document results, and report outcomes in Jira tickets
- Troubleshoot issues encountered during operations and escalate when necessary
4. Support & Inquiry Handling
- Provide first-line responses to technical inquiries from internal cloud users
- Answer and guide users referencing existing FAQs and documentation
- Escalate unresolved issues to team members
- Record and aggregate inquiry trends to contribute to FAQ and knowledge base improvements
5. Documentation & Runbook Maintenance
- Create and update cloud operation runbooks on Confluence
- Accumulate and organize operation records and team knowledge
- Periodically review and update existing documentation
- Propose process improvements and contribute to operational standardization
6. Cross-team & Vendor Collaboration
- Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams (security, networking, service teams, etc.) on technical matters
- Manage technical inquiries and support cases with cloud vendors (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, etc.)
- Participate in regular vendor meetings, gather information on new services, and share relevant updates internally
- Drive smooth cross-team communication in group-wide cloud initiatives
Work Environment
You will work as part of a 12-member team, collaborating with global members. English is the primary language of communication and is used in all daily meetings, Slack interactions, and documentation.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- More than 3 years of hands-on experience operating and configuring public cloud environments (2 or more of AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI)
- Experience with basic IAM and networking configuration (VPC, subnets, security groups, etc.)
- Experience working with Jira or equivalent ticket management tools
- Ability to execute tasks accurately based on runbooks and manuals
- Basic troubleshooting skills (log analysis, root cause isolation, etc.)
- Business-level English communication skills (meetings, Slack, documentation)
Desired Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with multiple cloud platforms (2 or more)
- Associate-level or above cloud certification from AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI
- Experience creating documentation using Confluence
- Basic experience with IaC tools such as Terraform
- Experience with cloud operations that consider security and compliance requirements
- Experience in internal user support or helpdesk roles
- Experience proposing and driving process improvements or standardization
- Experience leveraging AI/LLM tools (e.g., Claude Code) to improve work efficiency
