Job Description

The Linux Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining Linux server environments, ensuring their stability, security, and performance. The primary objectives of this role are to ensure the reliable operation of Linux infrastructure through proactive administration, vulnerability management, automation, and continuous improvement of system resilience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, Ubuntu, or equivalent distributions).
  • Perform routine OS patching, software updates, and system upgrades to keep environments secure and current.
  • Identify, assess, and remediate system vulnerabilities in line with security policies and compliance requirements.
  • Implement and manage backup strategies; perform recovery operations to meet defined RTO/RPO targets.
  • Develop and maintain Shell scripts and Ansible playbooks to automate repetitive tasks and ensure configuration consistency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, runbooks, and change records.
  • Manage TLS/SSL certificates, including issuance, renewal, and revocation across servers and services.
  • Diagnose and resolve system incidents, performance bottlenecks, and infrastructure failures in a timely manner.
  • Configure and maintain firewall rules, DNS records, and Active Directory integrations relevant to Linux environments.
  • Monitor system health, resource utilization, and log outputs; respond proactively to alerts.
  • Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to support infrastructure activities and projects.

Primary Skills

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Linux operating systems (RHEL/Ubuntu).
  •  Experience with vulnerability management tools and patch management processes
  • Solid troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across OS, network, and application layers.
  • Working knowledge of Firewalls (iptables/nftables/firewalld), DNS, and Active Directory/LDAP integration.
  • Hands-on experience with Shell scripting (Bash) and Ansible for automation and configuration management.
  • Understanding of TLS/SSL protocols, certificate lifecycle management, and PKI concepts.

Qualification, Experience, Technical and Functional Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (3+ years) in Linux server administration in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience managing vulnerability remediation cycles, patching workflows, and security hardening.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible for infrastructure automation and configuration management.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and maintain Bash scripts for operational tasks.
  • Familiarity with firewall management, DNS administration, and Active Directory/LDAP integration.
  • Experience with TLS certificate management in production environments.
  • Ability to interact with IT Managers, Service Desks, and Service Providers and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, or LPIC are an advantage.

A fundamental grasp of AI tools will be an added benefit.
