HIRING RANGE: $32.36 - $35.96/hour
Provides technical assistance and support for the Development Assistance Planning Division. Assists citizens, developers and staff in addressing planning and zoning related inquiries both in person and over the phone; reviews and processes various permits and development applications; and performs other planning duties as required by supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provides Planner of the Day services by responding to routine planning and zoning inquiries in person, by phone, and by e-mail from citizens and the development community as related to land development procedures, regulations and ordinances.
• Reviews single family residential permits for buildings, signage and fencing to ensure compliance with all applicable zoning requirements.
• Reviews zoning verification and business license requests to ensure compliance with all applicable zoning requirements.
• Maintains and manages development case and permit applications within the planning case management system.
• Maintains the Development Assistance, Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment, and Lakewood Speaks webpage for planning cases.
• Maintains a calendar of events for staff meetings, DAT meeting and Board and Commission meetings.
• Sets up after-hours meetings for Boards and Commissions within Planning and attends meetings to record, process and distribute meeting minutes.
• Prepares legal notifications for neighborhood, and Board and Commission meetings, including updating meeting calendar, preparing and mailing notices.
• Ability to transport self between City facilities and off-site locations
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships
Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the Planning Manager – Development Assistance.
Supervision Exercised: None.

Technological Skills
• Technical abilities such as computer mapping and graphics, drafting and computer word processing.
• Ability to manage Planning – Development Assistant Division webpage.
Education and Experience
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Prefer Bachelor’s degree in City or Regional Planning or related field.
• Experience: One year of customer service experience required.
• Equivalent combination of related education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability required to effectively perform the functions of this position may be considered, as determined by management.
Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record preferred.
LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work
