Position Title: Coordinator, Youth Development
Reports To: Senior Manager, Programs and Operations
I. Scope and summary of primary responsibilities
The Youth Development Coordinator will assist the Children and Youth team in designing, implementing, and facilitating inclusive programs, events, and summer camps for children and youth with sight loss and multiple disabilities. This position provides youth with hands-on experience in program delivery, leadership, community engagement, and accessible resource creation.
II. Essential functions
The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:
- Support the development and facilitation of engaging programs, camps, and events for children and youth who are blind or have low vision.
- Lead participants in developmentally appropriate activities that build interpersonal skills, teamwork, leadership, self-advocacy, and community participation.
- Potentially lead travel to CNIB Lake Joseph Camp in Muskoka, Ontario, ensuring safe and inclusive program delivery.
- Build and maintain positive, culturally sensitive relationships with participants and families.
- Develop clear and accessible documentation and resources to help families navigate CNIB services.
- Contribute to CNIB LIVE, PLAY, WORK, and LEARN resource repositories. - Maintain participant files and log all service tracking accurately and timely.
III. Qualifications
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must meet the requirements outlined in the Canada Summer Contribution Agreement.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
- Strong leadership and advocacy skills.
- Knowledge of normal growth and development of children, and ability to interact with children effectively.
- Maturity and sensitivity when working with the needs of persons who are blind or have low vision.
- Ethical behavior and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload demands within strict time constraints.
- Ability to address and manage emergency situations.
- Must be organized, self-motivated, flexible and adaptable.
- Knowledge of disability rights issues is an asset.
- Awareness of specific issues regarding sight loss is an asset.
- Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
Experience and Education
- Post-secondary degree.
- Experience working with children with sight loss and/or multiple disabilities.
- Experience planning and delivering children and youth programs.
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Office suite, including Office 365 online collaboration tools.
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check including vulnerable sectors.
Work environment
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
- Willingness to work from different locations.
- Some travel may be required
