The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine seeks a full-time Newborn Hospitalist to join our division.
The successful applicant should have a strong interest in clinical care, medical education, and quality improvement. They will join a collaborative team of pediatric hospitalists committed to advancing evidence-based newborn care, improving outcomes for newborns and their families, and educating the next generation of pediatricians through faculty development, mentorship, and scholarly activity.
The Mother-Baby Units (MBU) at the Women’s Hospital of Jackson Health System–Holtz Children’s Hospital comprise a high-volume newborn service with more than 4,000 deliveries annually. The MBU includes two clinically equivalent well-baby units staffed by pediatric hospitalists, pediatric residents, medical students, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, and lactation specialists. Holtz Children’s Hospital serves a large and diverse newborn population and functions as a major referral center for South Florida. Faculty practice within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that includes neonatology, obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, nursing, lactation services, social work, care coordination, and pediatric subspecialties, providing comprehensive care to newborns and their families.
Position Highlights
Full-time faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commensurate with experience
Dedicated clinical practice in newborn hospital medicine within the Mother-Baby Units at Holtz Children's Hospital
Structured 7-on/7-off clinical schedule supporting work-life balance and academic engagement
Protected non-clinical time between service blocks to support education, quality improvement, program development, and scholarly activity
Academic environment within a Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine composed of dedicated pediatric hospital medicine faculty

Faculty Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Provide high-quality, family-centered inpatient care for healthy newborns in the Mother-Baby Units.
Educate and counsel families on newborn care, anticipatory guidance, and discharge planning.
Identify newborns requiring escalation of care and coordinate transfer to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) when indicated.
Ensure safe transitions of care through timely communication of discharge summaries and other pertinent clinical information to community pediatricians.
Deliver evidence-based care and contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical practice guidelines and newborn care pathways.
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical operations initiatives to advance newborn outcomes.
Teach and mentor pediatric residents and medical students through bedside teaching and formal educational activities.
Engage in scholarly activities consistent with academic interests and career goals.
Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams to enhance care delivery and improve outcomes for newborns and their families.

Qualifications
MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics
Eligibility for unrestricted Florida medical licensure
Must be eligible for academic faculty appointment at the University of Miami
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or eligibility to obtain prior to employment
