Job Description
The Produce Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the Produce Department, including fresh product quality, inventory management, merchandising, and team leadership. This role ensures an exceptional shopping experience by maintaining high standards of freshness, presentation, and customer service while driving sales and controlling shrink.
Key Responsibilities- Department Operations
- Oversee daily produce operations including receiving, stocking, rotation, and display
- Ensure all products meet quality and freshness standards
- Maintain clean, organized sales floor and prep/backroom areas
- Customer Service Excellence
- Deliver outstanding customer service and ensure team members do the same
- Assist customers with product selection, questions, and special requests
- Create a fresh, full, and visually appealing department
- Inventory & Shrink Control
- Manage ordering to ensure proper inventory levels and minimize out-of-stocks
- Monitor and reduce shrink through proper handling, rotation, and storage
- Ensure accurate receiving, pricing, and inventory practices
- Merchandising & Sales
- Execute attractive displays, endcaps, and seasonal features to drive sales
- Ensure all products are properly signed and priced
- Maintain adherence to planograms and merchandising standards
- Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, schedule, and train produce associates
- Delegate tasks and ensure daily priorities are completed efficiently
- Provide coaching, feedback, and recognition to build a strong team
- Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Maintain proper handling and storage of all fresh products
- Promote a safe working environment for associates and customers
- Previous produce, grocery, or retail experience required
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Knowledge of fresh food handling and merchandising practices
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays
