VP, Credit - Structured Finance

Job Description

Job Purpose: 

The job exists to conduct detailed credit assessment and preparation of credit appraisal memos for corporate and structured financing; to manage the overall health of the allocated portfolio and to guide team of credit analysts. Additionally, the person will be expected to support in Budgeting, Regulatory reporting, Portfolio Reviews and MIS from Group Credit perspective. 

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Handle independently credit evaluation and approval process for corporate lending and structured debt across various sectors. This includes working capital facilities, trade facilities, project finance, asset finance, non-recourse real estate financing and leveraged / acquisition finance. 
  • To coordinate with Corporate Finance teams in developing appropriate product programs and assist in development of RACs 
  • Analyze complex transaction structures, asset quality and counterparty risk as part of the credit analysis. 
  • Review term sheets and identify credit and structural risks in collaboration with legal counsel. 
  • Set Credit terms and conditions including limits / amortization schedule, covenants, seniority of claims, EoD terms etc. 
  • Monitor ongoing credit exposure at product level and counterparty level; Also undertake Ad-hoc event-based risk analysis on structured debt exposures. 
  • Ensure compliance with credit policies, regulatory requirement and industry best practices. 
  • Manage the allocated portfolio of clients in terms of timely annual reviews, monitoring delinquencies, early warnings, adherence to covenants, documentary deferrals etc and actively engage with the respective business counterparts on regular basis to address any credit related issues for the allocated portfolio. 
  • Actively participate in any digitalization and automation based projects and represent Group Credit in the respective project teams and/or lead any such initiatives within Group Credit.
  • Given the High Networth and sensitive nature of the clientele, actively engage with the senior business counterparts to ensure that the proposed facility is adequately structured to meet the clients’ expectations within the bank’s underwriting standards. 
  • Accompany the business counterparts to client meetings and to develop better understanding of the client and the proposed credit facility. 
  • Adhere to & comply with departmental policies, standard operating procedures and practices so that the work is carried out in a smooth & methodical manner. 
  • Exhibit consistency with organization’s values and ethics at all times to demonstrate a value driven culture within the bank.
  • Have in-depth understanding of regulatory and internal bank policies.
  • Exhibits good communication & writing skills when preparing & submitting credit proposals to approving authorities within the Bank.

Guide and train a small team of credit analysts for credit underwriting

 

Key Requirements:

  • 15 years of experience in banking of which 5-7 years in structured debt looking at structured financing structures 
  • Good understanding of structured debt financing structures, multi-sector experience and asset valuations. 
  • Strong financial modelling and excel skills with ability to review a financial model, RAROC and returns sheets critically. 
  • Understand the key risk elements for such structured (incl. standard valuation procedures, and monitoring frameworks) 
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to clearly articulate risk consideration and credit rationale. 
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (Basel norms, IFRS 9, ECL & Impairments Calculations etc.) relevant to credit risk. 
  • Ensure completeness & accuracy of documentation submitted with the credit request in order to avoid fraud and/or delinquency in the future.
  • Ensure compliance to the bank’s credit underwriting policies and address any exceptions to the policy.
  • Perform portfolio management activities in terms of pastdue monitoring, breach of covenants, stress testing etc.
  • To review the excess rental release request of the clients taking into account the available and expected rental cashflows. 
  • To work in co-ordination with other stakeholders such as Business Units, Credit Administration, Collections, Operations etc to streamline any issues affecting the credit facilities. 
  • Review/Approve deferral or waiver requests by the customers in the context of credit risks involved.
  • Ensure that all loan applications and service requests are dealt with efficiently within the agreed SLAs.
  • Ensure completion and maintenance of the required departmental MIS as required on ongoing basis. 
  • Ensure that all the approved loans and proposal related documents are complete and stored in the common folder/system to safeguard any missing or misplaced documents.
  • To be able to work in pressure conditions without compromising on the credit underwriting quality.
  • To perform any additional Job-Related tasks/projects as and when assigned by Line Manager.

Qualification: 

  •  Bachelor’s degree preferably in Finance/Banking/ Commerce.
