Overview:
The Corporate Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for managing operational tax and compliance area including reviewing and analyzing operational tax returns (sales & use, occupancy, and alcohol) as well as carrying out tax research, assisting audits, planning projects, and ensuring that Omni is optimizing operational tax payments following state and local laws. In addition, the manager facilitates liquor license renewals, providing support and guidance to the hotels and resorts and other ownership entities.
Responsibilities:
Ensure that operational taxes are correctly and accurately assessed and remitted.
Coordinate and take the lead interface role for operational tax audits of Texas properties.
Coordinate audit assessment appeals, as necessary, representing Omni in these appeals with the states.
Support the properties and internal customers by providing guidance and assistance relating to tax questions/issues and audits including tax registrations, business licenses and liquor license registrations, required updates and compliance.
Work with vendors to ensure that sales tax is being charged properly for services paid at the Corporate Offices and communicate with the properties, as similar conditions may apply.
Perform research using CCH, internet, and other research tools. Communicate results and recommendations through reports and presentations summarizing the findings.
Stay current with all applicable changes in laws and tax rates.
Manage unclaimed property and escheatment processes, including documentation coordination, filing returns, and remitting funds to states.
Assist with Franchise tax e-file and payment, including online account set up.
Perform use tax account reconciliations to ensure that balances are consistent with returns filed and payments made.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of 5 years of Sales and Use Tax and other operational tax experience
Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, CCH or RIA tax research software, Oracle, or other general ledger software system
Experience with the State of Texas Sales and Use Tax process including the appeals process
Knowledge of the hospitality industry preferrable
Experience working within a corporate organization of a multi-unit company
