Job Description

Behavioral Specialist (Itinerant, to be placed at Wexler Grant) Grades 6-8 (26-27 School Year)
 REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Social-Emotional Learning
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in assigned training and staff development opportunities
  • Develops and complete yearly performance goals/or evaluations
  • Uses all relevant computer software programs
  • Complies with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations
  • Performs all relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma and five years or more working with children.
 
CERTIFICATION/ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS: Ability to pass and obtain a Registered Behavior Technician Certificate within three months of employment.

Assessment

  • Conduct reliability checks with classroom staff regarding the delivery of token system points
  • Conduct intervention fidelity checks to ensure proper implementation of procedures
  • Assist teams in the assessment of functional behavior
  • Input and analyze behavior data using the Review 360 database system
  • Assist teacher in analyzing student behavioral and instructional (antecedent) data
  • Record behavioral and instructional data in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner
  • Assess student reinforcement strategies

Management

  • Implement established classroom behavior management procedures
  • Implement established seclusion procedures
  • Implement a token program reinforcement system
  • Implement physical management training (PMT) procedures as prescribed
  • Assist teacher with the development of staff/student training materials
  • Implement student ADL programs, including feeding and toileting
  • Implement program generalization strategies in community, home, and other environments


Communication

  • Provide the teacher with student behavior reports at team meetings and per request
  • Participate in all staff meetings/training
  • Communicate relevant behavior information to the classroom team daily
  • Complete all forms, reports, and other paperwork in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner
  • Provide behavioral/instructional training and support for parents as needed
  • Notify the building principal of personal concerns promptly

Knowledge

  • Maintain current knowledge of each student's particular circumstances and needs
  • Understands core underlying principles of applied behavior analysis
  • Knows New Haven Public Schools policies and procedures
  • Knows the building program's behavior management system
  • Knows verbal and non-verbal intervention strategies
  • Knows Physical Management Training procedures
  • Familiar with individual behavior support programs
  • Familiar with the use of all relevant computer software programs

Responsibilities:

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months � Local 884 (Range 18 - $55,990) New Haven Board of Education must approve all recommendations for employment as a Behavior Specialist.
