Construction/Maintenance Worker - Parks, Full Time

Salary: $21.94 hourly
General Description and Classification Standards:
Performs general maintenance activities to maintain the appearance and beauty of City Parks and Recreation grounds. Performs semi-skilled construction and/or maintenance work in support of a wide variety of public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, and other related activities. Operates hand and power tools, light to medium construction equipment, test and measurement equipment, etc. Generally, works as a part of a work crew. Work performed is at an experienced level. Work is performed frequently in cooperation with skilled trades employees, experienced equipment operators, technicians, or crew supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.
- Performs general maintenance of parks and recreation grounds.
- Removes fallen tree limbs and other debris from park areas.
- Mows grass and maintains turf areas.
- Blows sidewalks, streets, curbsides, and other hard surfaces to keep them clean.
- Weeds, prunes, and maintains flower beds and shrubs.
- Applies fertilizer and other chemicals necessary for plant growth, when properly licensed.
- Paints and repairs playground equipment.
- Installs and repairs park furniture, including benches, picnic tables, and bleachers.
- Cleans pavilions and restroom facilities.
- Collects refuse and trash along Parks and Recreation routes.
- Operates various equipment, including riding mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, edgers, pressure washers, landscape trucks, crew cab pickups, and other lawn and turf maintenance equipment as appropriate.
- Transports crew members to various park sites and completes scheduled maintenance tasks.
- Maintains a daily log of all work performed and completes other departmental reports as required.
- Adheres to all safety precautions and operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintains departmental and City vehicles by monitoring fluid levels, inspecting for body damage, and cleaning and washing vehicles on a weekly basis.
- May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license at time of appointment. License must remain valid during tenure in this position.
High school diploma or GED required.
One year ground maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must successfully pass equipment skills test on various lawn and turf equipment.
