Position Title: Food Service Field Supervisor

 

Department: Food Service and Nutrition

 

Reports To: Director of Food Service and Nutrition

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years experience in school food service or a related field
  • Previous experience with computers, computer software, printers, and calculators required
  • Experience in a supervisory or management capacity involving menu planning, estimation of food requirements, requisition of supplies and supervision of food preparation and service desired

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must have current government issued identification

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

8 Hours/230 Days

Administrative Salary Scale (Group H)

 

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Assists in the management, supervision, planning, organizing, and marketing of the School Food Service Program. Assists in appropriate training of food service personnel. Assists managers in the development and maintenance of a sound and fiscally solid School Food Service Program in accord with state and federal regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.
  • Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
  • Analyzes forecasts, prepares plans, and makes suggestions concerning the Food Service Program in accord with state, federal, and district guidelines.
  • Effectively addresses food service concerns at the school level including those brought by students, staff, and the general public; makes necessary recommendations to the unit manager and/or principal.
  • Provides complete written evaluations on all food service managers annually.
  • As assigned, makes on-site visits, trains, instructs, supervises, and evaluates the food service manager and staff (including substitutes) in the preparation, production, and serving of meals and a la carte product sales.
  • Assists managers in the training of staff to recognize the meal components necessary to qualify as reimbursable, to implement the "Offer vs. Serve" policy properly, and ensure that an adequate variety and quantity of food is on hand throughout the serving period.
  • Supervises and assists managers and cashiers in the maintenance of necessary records of food service operations at the cafeteria level.
  • Assists director of food service and nutrition with annual administrative reviews including the Afterschool Snack Program.
  • Maintains South Carolina School Nutrition Association records and memberships, including ServSafe certification.
  • Attends state and federal meetings as required.
  • Assists and coordinates with principals, teachers, and managers nutrition education as required by state law.
  • Keeps abreast of new products for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program and maintains liaison with contracted food distributors and equipment suppliers.
  • Coordinates the district's annual mini food show.
  • Assists in evaluating equipment needs and determining replacement schedules for equipment.
  • Coordinates training sessions and assists with hands on training for food service managers and cashiers to properly complete records such as daily breakfast and lunch meal plans and menus; daily and monthly breakfast usage reports; lunch, salad bar, and special sales production records; daily food and equipment temperature logs; daily and monthly participant count and summaries; daily and monthly food and supply inventories; annual equipment and utensil inventories; invoices; food transfers; incident reports; employee/substitute sign in/out records; editing of checks; participation records; receipts and deposits; student roster comparisons; etc.
  • Operates, utilizes and trains food service personnel on a wide variety of food service equipment, computers, cash registers, calculators, office equipment, and current meal accounting system.
  • Assumes manager's duties when a manager is absent for an extended period of time.
  • Follows current state and USDA federal rules, regulations and standard operating procedures regarding the National School Lunch reimbursable meal program, food safety, and sanitation.
  • Coordinates and attends district scheduled computer programs, applications and food safety trainings; assists managers to instruct, supervise and apply learned principles daily.
  • Complies with all district policies and procedures for the Food Service Program.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises the activities of food service managers, cashiers, operators and substitutes as assigned. Assists managers with the maintenance of sound financial records and responsibilities and with meeting requirements to maintain labor in compliance with the district's approved meals per labor hour formula. Responsible for compliance with all district, state and federal regulations and guidelines.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group.  Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines. Some extended hours and multiple demands from several people are frequently required of the employee. Computer literacy required.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.

The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as boxes of materials. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as furniture or boxes of materials.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen and/or reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. Occasionally the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

The noise level in the work environment for this position varies. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day. 

Must be able to perform manual work requiring some physical strength and agility and at times lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work long hours while standing with routine exposure to cold and heat. Repetitive tasks performed daily include standing and walking. Requires ability to provide constant attention and meet deadlines. The possibility of exposure to biohazard risks including oral secretions and blood exists. Must wear a district approved uniform, hard soled/non-slip shoes and a suitable and effective hair restraint. May be required to assist cooks in food preparation and/or clean up as assigned.  Local travel required.
