Job Summary
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the maintenance department. Evaluates systems or facilities to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed. Assesses production equipment to plan work assignments and project schedules. Develops maintenance procedures and schedules. Provides technical support to the production equipment, plant equipment, utility equipment, and overall mechanical integrity of the building.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides strong safety leadership and ensures that employee safety is the primary objective of the maintenance team.
- Ensures compliance with all safety requirements.
- Models safe behaviors and personal work practices.
- Ensures maintenance personnel stays current with all required training.
- Provides feedback to direct reports through coaching, mid-year, and year-end reviews.
- Manages department vacation schedules to ensure adequate staffing.
- Reviews and approves timecards for the department.
- Ensures work scheduled is finished in a timely manner.
- Ensures trouble calls are resolved in a timely manner.
- Ensures quality standards for maintenance work are upheld.
- Provides support in the hiring process for the staff in the maintenance department.
- Evaluates the department’s training needs and assist in the training.
- Provides direction in the prioritization of planned work.
- Ensures adherence to the work order process.
- Participates in Daily Direction Setting and other meetings as necessary.

- Willingness to be on-call for support of the department.
- Works with all people and equipment across the shift to lead the team.
- Interfaces with multiple functions with the plant, as well as WHQ Engineering, Process Safety, Product Development, Reliability, and network teams.
- Ensures operational standards are executed with excellence.
- Ensures the proper application of the CMMS system to record preventive maintenance and repairs in the production equipment.
- Creates, schedules, implements, and manages a preventive maintenance program for production machinery and equipment.
- Evaluates jobs in the process and on completion to ensure products meet safety and work quality expectations.
- Procures materials, supplies, and repairs parts to maintain inventory as required.
- Work with the Maintenance Manager to suggest, plan, and oversee equipment needs and acquisition to maximize production efficiency and return.
- Oversees and plans the layout of electrical and mechanical equipment; recommends and implements modifications to facilities.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Food manufacturing maintenance and engineering experience preferred.
- Computer skills – working knowledge of SAP, and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Operations experience with a strong understanding of various plant functions.
- Strong drive and initiative to make improvements in a variety of areas with a minimum of supervision.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills - relies on facts and data.
- Strong interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to traverse property and facility to diagnose building issues and plan repairs or maintenance.
- Must be physically able to perform repairs when needed.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.

Physical Demands/Efforts
- Must be willing to work all shifts, weekends, and some holidays.
- Extensive walking and standing.
- Work requires occasional physical exertion, including some lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Mental & Visual Demands
- Work performed in this position requires moderate concentration to effectively execute moderately complex tasks.
- Work occasionally requires some degree of visual effort for periods of time.
Work Environment and Hazards
- Employee works in a manufacturing setting with some exposure to heat, cold, dust, or other factors of minor inconvenience.
- The position has some exposure to hazards that might cause minor injury.
- Less than 25% travel is required for this position. Travel would be to other sites via airplane.
- May need to work weekends or overtime as required.
