Job Description

The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for leading all accounting operations in Mexico, ensuring full compliance with Mexican tax regulations, federal reporting requirements, and corporate accounting policies. This role requires a highly experienced accounting professional with a strong background in managing Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) audits, performing accounting reconstructions for medium-sized companies, and overseeing complex accounting and tax matters in dynamic business environments. The ideal candidate must be capable of independently identifying accounting risks, resolving historical accounting issues, and ensuring accurate financial reporting while supporting business growth and regulatory compliance. WHAT YOU’LL DO The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for leading all accounting operations in Mexico, ensuring full compliance with Mexican tax regulations, federal reporting requirements, and corporate accounting policies. This role requires a highly experienced accounting professional with a strong background in managing Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) audits, performing accounting reconstructions for medium-sized companies, and overseeing complex accounting and tax matters in dynamic business environments. The ideal candidate must be capable of independently identifying accounting risks, resolving historical accounting issues, and ensuring accurate financial reporting while supporting business growth and regulatory compliance. Day-To-Day Responsibilities: Oversee and manage all accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, accruals, and reconciliations. Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with Mexican accounting standards (NIF) and corporate policies. Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports. Serve as the primary accounting resource for Mexican tax compliance and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with SAT regulations, Comprobante Fiscal Digital por Internet (CFDI) requirements, Value-Added Tax (VAT) Impuesto al Valor Agregado (IVA), Income Tax Impuesto Sobre la Renta (ISR), payroll taxes, withholding taxes, and other federal obligations. Coordinate tax reviews, audits, and regulatory inquiries. Partner with external tax advisors and auditors to ensure timely and accurate filings. Monitor regulatory changes and proactively assess their impact on company operations. Lead and manage SAT audits from initiation through resolution. Prepare supporting documentation and coordinate responses to government authorities. Conduct accounting clean-up projects and reconstruction of accounting records for medium-sized organizations. Identify historical accounting discrepancies and implement corrective actions. Strengthen accounting controls to minimize future compliance risks. Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting packages. Analyze financial results and explain significant variances. Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements. Support both internal and external audits. Supervise and develop accounting staff Establish best practices and improve accounting processes. Drive ERP optimization initiatives and automation opportunities. Collaborate with Finance, Tax, Payroll, and Corporate Accounting teams. Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and projects as needed to support the team and organization, ensuring flexibility in adapting to evolving priorities and objectives. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Must-Haves: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience. Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or leadership position. Expert knowledge of Mexican tax regulations, including IVA, ISR, CFDI, DIOT, payroll taxes, and statutory reporting requirements. Strong understanding of Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF). Experience dealing directly with SAT audits and tax authorities Advanced financial statement preparation and analysis skills. Extensive experience working with multiple Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is mandatory. Experience with Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP), Oracle, NetSuite, JD Edwards, or similar ERP platforms is highly desirable. Ability to support ERP implementations, system migrations, and process improvements. Strong leadership and team management skills. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to identify risks and implement corrective actions independently. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines. Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders. Fluent Spanish. Advanced English (written and verbal). Nice-To-Haves: CPA (Contador Público) strongly preferred Demonstrated experience leading and responding to SAT audits. Proven experience performing accounting reconstructions and remediation projects for medium-sized companies.
