Job Description
The Railway Systems Expert will support the delivery of passenger service, rail systems performance and maintenance activities. The role ensures efficient operation, maintenance, and optimization of rail systems including signalling, telecom and platform screen doors, while meeting contractual KPIs, safety standards, and client requirements. Support Asset & Maintenance Team in their oversight and supervision of the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Contractors for the Riyadh Metro Project
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate understanding of the safety significance in the operation and maintenance systems preferably in a railway environment and always consider safety as the highest priority.
- Oversee day-to-day railway systems operations and maintenance including signalling, telecom, PSD, and related systems across assigned lines/assets.
- Ensure proper functioning of all related assets.
- Monitor and audit planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and corrective maintenance. Experience.to include, Planned Preventative rail systems maintenance, Condition-Based maintenance, including Light and Heavy overhaul.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee rail systems inspections to ensure adherence to maintenance standards. Conduct regular site inspections and service quality checks.
- Analyse and provide recommendations on the Asset Management and Life Cycle Strategy.
- Monitor, analyse and report KPIs. Ensure asset reliability and performance in line contract requirements.
- Review and support optimization of maintenance regime, procedures, inspection checks and schedules aligned with OEM guidelines and international standards.
- Drive implementation of predictive maintenance, risk-based maintenance and condition-based monitoring systems.
- Support development of dashboards, trackers, and performance monitoring tools.
- Support the Maintenance Manager with technical input and reporting
Technical Expertise
- Provide reliability and failure analysis, including RCA, FMEA/FMECA, defect elimination, and failure trend analysis
- Strong knowledge of asset management and reliability best practices, including lifecycle management, risk-based maintenance, and performance-driven maintenance optimization
- Investigate incidents and produce technical reports with root cause and corrective actions
- Perform data analysis of CMMS maintenance records, trends, and compliance
- Strong technical knowledge of railway signalling systems, including CBTC/ETCS principles, interlocking, train detection, and route control
- In-depth understanding of signalling field equipment such as point machines, track circuits, axle counters, and signals, including typical failure modes
- Technical knowledge of railway telecom systems, including fiber optic networks, IP-based communication systems, and radio systems (TETRA/LTE)
- Understanding of PSD systems, including operation, control logic, and interfaces with signalling and train systems
- Strong understanding of interfaces between signalling, telecom, PSD, rolling stock, and OCC systems
- Knowledge of SCADA and OCC systems for monitoring and control of railway operations
- Understanding of safety-critical system principles, including fail-safe design, redundancy, and availability requirements
- Familiarity with railway standards, OEM documentation, and system design specifications
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports on Maintenance performance.
- Review Asset Condition Reports and renewal plans.
- Maintain asset records, maintenance logs, and service reports.
- Track KPIs and recommend improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Control & Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent), with demonstrated experience in railway signalling, telecommunications, and/or platform screen door systems.
- 8+ years of experience in rail systems maintenance.
- Strong experience in railway signalling, telecommunications, and/or platform screen door systems.
- Experience in large-scale projects (metro, airports, commercial complexes, etc.) preferred.
- Middle East / KSA experience is an advantage.
- Familiarity with international railway standards (EN, IEC, IEEE, CENELEC).
- Professional certifications such as IRSE License, CEng, or equivalent are preferred. Additional certifications in railway signalling systems, telecom, or CENELEC (EN 50126, 50128, 50129) standards are an advantage.
