Job Description
Summary:
Perform routine skilled work involving the maintenance, repair, testing, and installation
of various types of backflow prevention assemblies, including Reduced Pressure Zone assembly (RPZ), double
check valves and vacuum breakers.

Responsibilities:
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Maintain, repair, test, and install all types of backflow prevention assemblies including RPZ assembly,
double check valves and vacuum breakers for all sites to maintain compliance with county and state
regulations.
Maintain operational records, data, prepare routing and special reports to maintain, monitor, and enforce
observance of safety regulations within all areas of operational control.
Test fire hydrants for proper operation. Repair and record all pertinent data including hydrant pressure and
water volume.
Analyze and resolve issues pertaining to backflow assemblies and help determine the responsible course
of corrective action.
Instruct, monitor, and consult with superiors and subordinates on complex work tasks and insure
compliance with plans, codes, standards, regulations and operating instructions.
Requisition necessary tools, supplies, materials and equipment and insure that proper amounts of same
are on hand for job completion.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and/or projects may be assigned.
Report to the Manager of Sites and Utilities and the appropriate Maintenance Repair Supervisor.
Perform in the areas of installing, maintaining, altering and repairing plumbing trade related components in
district facilities. Operate all hand tools and power tools to perform functions for specific trades.
Generate reports, send and receive correspondence over the internet. Prepare all required statutory
reports and necessary backflow/fire hydrant related documents.
Respond to all backflow or fire hydrant related emergency "call-outs" after hours.
Attend training required by HCPS to keep abreast of current technology relevant to these trades.
Perform any other duties as assigned.

Experience: Minimum of two years of increasingly responsible experience in testing and repairing
backflow prevention and fire hydrant assemblies.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Possesses Backflow Inspector certification as required by Florida
Statute. Must possess a Class E Driver's License or greater.
Language Skills:
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and
procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of
individuals.
Mathematical Skills:
Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area,
circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
form.
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires the following physical activities: standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
handling, bending.
This position requires the following lifting demands: Up to 35 pounds.
This position requires the following reaching activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
This position involves the following environmental conditions: Noise Intensity 3 moderate; proximity to moving
mechanical parts.
