Systems Engineer – Supportability
Defence and Government Solutions APAC
Location: Melbourne, Australia
We are growing our Melbourne engineering team and are hiring a Systems Engineer with experience in supportability and technical documentation within Defence programs.
You will support Defence programs by delivering critical engineering and supportability outcomes across the system lifecycle.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across the full engineering lifecycle and is looking to deepen their experience in Defence systems, Integrated Product Support, and technical publications.
You will play a key role in ensuring systems are designed to be supportable, compliant, and clearly documented for operators and maintainers.
Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance are required.
What you will do
Systems engineering
- Manage system requirements including development, traceability, and verification
- Support verification and validation activities and evidence capture
- Contribute to engineering reporting and technical performance measures
- Support design reviews, technical assessments, and change management
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables to ensure quality and compliance
Technical publications
- Develop and maintain Defence standard documentation including user manuals and maintenance procedures
- Translate engineering data into clear, user friendly content
- Ensure all publications meet Defence standards and configuration control requirements
- Manage document lifecycle including drafting, review, QA, and release
Supportability
- Contribute to Integrated Product Support activities such as maintenance concepts and support strategies
- Ensure systems meet reliability and maintainability and through life support requirements
- Align engineering outputs with support system needs and documentation
Stakeholder engagement
- Collaborate with engineering, IPS, and project teams
- Engage with Defence stakeholders and support technical discussions
- Work with suppliers to source and validate technical data
What you bring
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience in systems engineering, product support, or maintenance within a Defence environment
- Experience managing engineering requirements and lifecycle activities
- Exposure to technical documentation or support system artefacts
- Experience with Defence technical publications such as EMEIs or User Handbooks is highly regarded
Skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non technical stakeholders
- Solid understanding of systems engineering principles
- Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
- Progress toward Engineers Australia accreditation is beneficial

Location and travel
