Job Description

About the role

Argus Analytics forms one half of the advisory division of Argus Media Group. Comprising a global team of 90 analysts, we provide clients with analysis, data and forecasts across 35 commodities and markets spanning oil & gas, petrochemicals, fertilizers, genfuels, metals and energy transition solutions. Our work is firmly focused on market fundamentals — considering end-to-end value chains, international trade flows and macroeconomic trends. Our value proposition centres around the quality of our analysts, the depth of our data and our ability to leverage Argus’ wider strengths — 55 years of commodity markets expertise, unrivalled global networks and proprietary databases.

The fertilizer team is at the core of our rapidly growing Analytics team. To drive this growth we are now looking for an experienced, passionate and innovative Nitrogen Manager to lead our portfolio of nitrogen-related subscription services (encapsulating Ammonia, Urea and TGU). At its core, this role will oversee the delivery of the team’s routine publications, drive an unencumbered thought leadership agenda to the market, build enduring relationships with the industry and build the next generation of content and data to position Argus as the first voice clients in helping them understand the nitrogen value chain.

Reporting to the Head of Fertilizers, the successful candidate will have an ambitious mandate to materially grow our existing $ multi-million client base. We are seeking someone who demonstrates strong sector knowledge, managerial pedigree, client gravitas and commercial acumen.

What will you be doing

Management of the Nitrogen Analytics portfolio

You will be expected to maintain a well-established portfolio of nitrogen subscription services, including:

  • Ensuring the Nitrogen Team delivers its numerous complex short-to-long term routine reports on time and to a quality that enhances Argus’s brand;

  • Continuously innovating the form, format and methodologies that underpin the team’s deliverables;

  • Representing Argus Analytics as a Nitrogen subject matter expert at appropriate international events;

  • Engaging with the data science and technology teams within Argus to support implementation of improvements to analytical techniques, data quality and product functionality.

Business development

  • Engaging with the top echelons of existing nitrogen subscribers to ensure their engagement with our content and expertise;

  • Supporting Argus’s commercial organisation to identify and secure prospects through high impact demos;

  • Leveraging Argus’ marketing & conferences teams to promote our Analytics services;

  • Working collaboratively with other adjacent service leads (spanning fertilizers, agriculture, energy, hydrogen, chemicals and beyond) to support full-value chain subscriptions.

People and knowledge development

  • Guiding and developing team members in terms of commodity expertise, production of commodity analysis and how to engage effectively with clients, the media and other external stakeholders;

  • Managing and developing an international team of subject matter experts;

  • Acting as a senior role model for analysts across the wider Analytics business.

What we’re looking for in you

  • Nitrogen fertilizer industry experience (preferably 10+ years), most likely gained in either Fertilizer market intelligence or consulting roles; or within industry

  • Educated to degree level (2.1 or above) from a leading university. Further education (e.g. MBA) a plus.

  • Highly numerate with experience analysing comprehensive datasets quickly and meticulously with excellent attention to detail and accuracy focus.

  • Intellectually curious and able to demonstrate structured problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills.

  • Strong IT skills including advanced Excel and PowerPoint. Awareness of other statistical and programming languages such as R is an advantage.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks to deadline and to meet targets.
